Movie synopsis
Everything seems to be falling into place for Stacy (Brittany Murphy). She's just landed a job as associate producer on Kippie Kann Do!, a local syndicated talk show, and she's now one step closer to realizing her dream of working with Diane Sawyer. Also, she's pretty sure that her beau Derek (Ron Livingston) is "the one," but she can't understand why he's commitment-phobic. Then a staffer on her show pitches an idea about how electronic "little black books" can be used to see if your mate is keeping secrets from you. Stacy's discovery that Derek failed to divulge a past relationship makes her wonder what else he might be hiding. With the help of an older, more experienced associate producer, Barb (Holly Hunter), Stacy begins to use Derek's Palm Pilot to investigate his exes. But when she develops a friendship with one of the women, Stacy begins to question not only what she has done, but also what she really wants. In the long run, Stacy gets much more than she bargained for as this slightly dark comedy takes some unexpected turns. Directed by Nick Hurran, the film features a soundtrack of classic Carly Simon tunes. Kathy Bates plays Kippie Kann.

The Little Black Book

Ahh here we go. A nice little romantic comedy with cutie pie Brittany Murphy. Something to curl up on the couch with and enjoy with your guy. Yeah...

No.

Don't ever, ever watch this with your boyfriend ladies. Ever. Why? Because this movie will have him looking at you shifty eyed and all suspicious like. In the movie Murphy's character goes through her man's "Little Black Book" (actually his PDA) to find out more about his past when she realizes that he's lied to her about a past relationship. She gets the idea from work—a syndicated talk show with a Ricki Lake/Oprah/Rosie O' Donell like character (sounds ugly doesn't it?) as the host. One of the producers pitch the "Little Black Book" idea as a show topic (find out about your man's past through his little black book, yadda yadda yadda) which though at first gets rejected for an idea about midgets, is Murphy's inspiration for finding out more about her lying man. While he's on a business trip she goes through the PDA he left behind using his contacts to meet his ex-girlfriends in order to find out just what else he's been lying about and how his past relationships compare to his and hers.

So you think this is a cute movie full of comedic mishaps and misunderstandings? Well beware, because it's a lot darker than it seems. Maybe the beginning references to Macbeth and Pandora's box will give you some sort of clue (WTF?)

Either way, the movie goes on to make you totally unsympathetic to Murphy's snooping and deceptive character, but I personally couldn't understand how a dude (her boyfriend) could lie so freaking much. I mean, this dude is a total liar. Together he and her both suck.

Either way, though it's dark and a little confusing (especially as to what the true moral or point of the story is) and the obsession with Carly Simon will have you scratching your head, it's actually an entertaining movie to watch with some friends (remember, not a date. NOT A DATE!). The effed up plot twist at the end will have you gasping and clucking a "Oh no they didn't girl!" when the movie gives you a Springer/Lake-esque talk show surprise zinger true to its trashy talk-show theme.

It's not the greatest film ever, but it was a lot more entertaining than I expected it to be. Just don't watch it with your guy/girl. I'm serious. It will kill the mood. But watch it just for laughs (if you can stand to see Murphy's chicken legs in a skirt, I almost couldn't).

Love & Laughter Rolled Into One

This hilarious movie featuring Brittany Murphy has got everything all rolled into one.

Murphy's character decides to snoop through her boyfriend's PDA (aka Little Black Book, hence the name of the movie) while he is away. In doing so, she comes across "information" about a past relationship and sets out to find out more.

The comical twists and turns in this movie, blended with a romantic tale, keeps you laughing the whole way through. The storyline here is truly fresh and original. Well worth watching!

Little Black Book

I love this movie. If you've ever been in a relationship that's a little shaky, you can really appreciate the humor of this situation comedy.

Little Black Book

Light comedy, high emotion, not usually my kind of movie, but is a touching story. Brittany Murphy is believably innocent and unaware.
