I own several WRT54GS routers and cannot say enough about them! They don't have every feature I wish they had, but I don't administer a "normal" network. The great thing is that I can probably find a third-party firmware upgrade for the WRT54GS that will make it do what I need! SWEET! As for their flexibility, I am currently using a WRT54GS paired with a WAP54G access point for my backbone internal network, a WRT54GS on an isolated network serving a public HotSpot, and a WRT54GS as a "top level" isolated network for admin purposes all controlled through a BEFSR41 router/switch. I have not been able to match the performance of these units with DLINK, NetGear, Belkin, or any other brand. Linksys is the top of the heap in home/small business networking hardware!
I bought the Linksys WRT54GS because it operates and runs smoothly. I don't like the Newer Access points the Linksys and other have to offer.I like how you can configure and setup this router to your specific needs. Yes, the older versions of linksys are better from V3.0 to V1.0. All the new ones offer and give limited configure options and no script writing. I say that the Linksys WRT54GS is worth about the same value as the Newer Linksys router only difference is the the price , the newer ones have the N wireless Band, in which not all wireless new devices have it some still come with the G wirelessband and the Older ones You can do more and configure more. Plus if you don't have an N compatiabale wireless then your forced to buy one. Do the reserach for your self for Linksys WRT54GS and compare it with Newer wireless routers out there Check out demostrations on YouTube and product reviews as well.
OTHER THAN THE FACT THAT YOU NEED TO PUT A SECURITY CODE ON YOUR WIRELESS INTERNET ACCESS THIS ITEM IS GOOD. EVEN WITH THE WIRELESS ACCESS DISABLED FROM YOUR ROUTERS SETTINGS SOMETIMES THE ROUTER JUST WANTS TO PUT YOUR INTERNET OUT THERE, SO JUST MAKE A SECURITY CODE, THAT WILL CUT PEOPLE OFF FROM STEALING YOUR INTERNET, ALSO IF YOU HAVE MULTIPLE DEVICES AND DON'T HAVE BROADBAND SPEEDS, YOU HAVE TO UNPLUG/DISCONNECT YOUR OTHER DEVICES TO GET OPTIMUM SPEED ON ONE DEVICE, KIND OF MESSED UP FOR A ROUTER HUH. ANYWAY OTHER THAN THAT GREAT PRODUCT, IF YOU NEED EXTRA PORTS THAT YOUR MODEM DOESN'T HAVE GREAT PRODUCT.
Excellent product...very useful and easy to use
A wireless router is a device that performs the functions of a router but also includes the functions of a wireless access point and a network switch. They are commonly used to allow access to the Internet or a computer network without the need for a cabled connection. It can function in a wired LAN (local area network), a wireless only LAN (WLAN), or a mixed wired/wireless network. Most current wireless routers have the following characteristics:
LAN ports which function in the same manner as the ports of a network switch
A WAN port to connect to a wide area network, typically one with Internet access. External destinations are accessed using this port. If it is not used, many functions of the router will be bypassed.
Wireless antennae These allow connections from other wireless devices (NICs (network interface cards), wireless repeaters, wireless access points, and wireless bridges, for example), usually using the Wi-Fi standard.
Some wireless routers also include a DSL or cable modem in addition to their other components.
This router works perfectly. I am very happy. I was using another D-link, and Nexx, and I had problem with them: the wireless conecction disconectec frecuently. This problem was solve when I started to use my Linksys.
