Lexmark X5650 A Lot of Bang For Your Buck

Although no one would call the Lexmark X5650 a world class printer, you sure do get a bang for your buck. This mid-range printer is loaded with features and capabilities including printing, coping, faxing and scanning.

The Lexmark X5650 is constructed for functionally, not style. This approach allowed Lexmark to design the Lexmark X5650 as a compact printer. The top of this printer consists of an auto document feeder which makes copying or faxing multiple documents easy. Scanning is a snap with the document auto-detection features. Few mid-range printers can match the quality of the rich and vivid colors of the photo prints which will suffice for small business and home printing. Those with a discerning eye for detail will want to look at a high end inkjet or a laser printer.

The Lexmark X5650 printer is very easy to use. I have not had to refer to the instructions manual to accomplish a task. For a printer in this price range, the scanner performance is top of the line. The Lexmark X5650 can be placed in a power saver mode by hitting the on button in the top hand left corner of the control panel. The printer will power back up when you assign it a job such as print a document.

The Lexmark X5650 is relatively slow when printing photographs. The Lexmark is not a quite printer. The noise the printer makes may be distracting to some. If you print on cheap paper, you can expect some smudging.

This printer is well constructed. The auto document feeder does not flop around when you open it like some other printers in this price range. The Lexmark X5650 comes with a one year limited manufacturer warranty.

The Lexmark X5650 is not the most up-to-date model with Bluetooth capabilities. The Lexmark X5650 does have a USB port, a quick connect laptop port, and PictBridge. The Lexmark X5650 is my printer of choice because it is a low cost printer that gets the job done.

Finally, an inexpensive printer with a document feeder!

Lexmark just keeps beating out the competition. This is my third Lexmark printer, and the others all churned out print after print after print before eventually dying, and at the price they are cheaper to replace than repair. With very limited desk space, I like the all-in-one capability. I originally bought a Lexmark P3100 because it included OCR and had card readers and kept buying them on eBay because it printed adequately and had those card readers. I finally had to go looking for a new printer because there is no Windows7 driver for the P3100. When I saw Lexmark finally offered a printer with an auto document feeder, there was no question about what I was going to buy! I find the setup rather non-intuitive, but if you just follow the quick start guide, you are through it in a few minutes and can get to the fun part, printing. I scan a lot of documents, and the ADF has made my life so much easier, although the B/W scanning option does not pick up faint marks as well as earlier versions. (I just fall back on greyscale scanning for those documents.) I also don't like that the printer uses the color cartridge for printing a copy even if you press the black copy option. I don't fax at all so can't evaluate that capability. This has been a great printer for me, as its features are important to me and its weaknesses are items I can live with.

Awesome Product

I decided to buy a printer, due to the fact, I go to an online college and a lot of my books are e-books and it is hard for me to flip screens, so I decided I would just copy them so I have them at hand when I need them. This product works great, it scans, copies, faxes, and I can insert my SD card from my camera straight into the printer and it prints my pictures. I LOVE IT !!!

XP users BEWARE!

Windows XP users beware! Before I purchased this printer, I googled it and checked CNET and it seemed to to get pretty decent reviews. Once my used printer arrived I went to Lexmark site and downloaded software. I spent 3 days trying to get printer to run. It caused instability problems with my operating system and I had to disable my AV programs to install it. Then I would have to hard start my PC and the installed printer drivers were gone. Then I finally read online that all this is a common problem with Windows XP. Add to the fact that the Lexmark XL ink cartridges can not be refilled. There was apparently a lawsuit as Lexmark says that the cartridges are THEIR property that you are merely LEASING. The were forced to come out with another series of refillable cartridges, but until you buy them you are stuck buying the XL cartridges. I finally gave up and bought an Epson workforce 633 all in one for $99 at Bestbuy. Fast and easy to install. I would strongly advise against the Lexmark printer if you are running XP.

Good Value Printer

You must download software from Lexmark if you upgrade to windows 7,but it is free.Very nice scanning, and you can scan or copy from a stack of paper.Useful display and you do not need the PC to print photo`s.It is equiped with several popular card readers.Decent print quality for the money. We have a 3300 series that has been very good, and that is why we got this one, with a few more features for our son.
