| Nintendo's highly acclaimed adventure brings the classic series into the third dimension. After a nightmare involving a certain young princess and the evil thief Ganondorf, series hero Link wakes up in his home village tucked away behind the mysterious Lost Woods. The only Kokiri without a fairy, Link soon meets up with his new traveling companion, the winged Navi, and sets out on the adventure of his life. The quest, which inevitably turns into a rescue mission for Princess Zelda, leads players through dark dungeons, picturesque villages, into the heart of a volcano, to the bottom of a lake, through a haunted desert, deep into a magical forest, into a giant tree, the belly of a beast, and even through time. | |

The Legend of Zelda is one of those magical series of games that always cause huge amounts of excitement. It sprung onto the NES scene in 1987, and it was a runaway success. Remember the chip shortages that delayed the 1988 release of the Adventure of Link? Or what about the first time you saw pictures of the Japanese version of 1991's A Link to the Past? With the possible exception of Mario, no Nintendo series has caused such a level of hysteria or left behind so many great memories. Ocarina of Time definitely follows in the footsteps of the previous games, and the result is a game that can't be called anything other than flawless.
You begin the game as a child of the forest. But by the time you're done, you'll be a fisherman, an errand boy, the hero of time, and, yes, even a traveling mask salesman. The game is chock-full of minitasks and subgames that run alongside the main quest, saving Hyrule from Ganondorf's evil. This leads to an extreme feeling of freedom, even though a good portion of the game must be executed in a linear fashion. Stuck at the water temple? Then why not go scout around for some extra heart containers while you think about your dilemma?
The control really holds the game together. Most 3D game designers still haven't mastered the art of controlling characters in a 3D environment, but that's not the case here. Link moves beautifully, and controlling his various actions is a breeze. Essentially, your B button will always attack with the sword. The A button, however, acts as an action button, performing every non-item-related task in the game. At various times, A lets you climb, grab, dive, talk, and lots more. Three of the C buttons are used for items, any of which can be assigned to any of the three buttons. The top C button zooms in to a first-person perspective, which allows you to look around. The R shoulder button is used for blocking with the shield. The Z trigger is perhaps the most important button when it comes to dealing with enemies in the 3D realm. Hitting Z while looking at an enemy will cause you to lock on to that opponent. From there you can circle-strafe around them, hop from side to side, and always block in their direction. This is key to fighting all but the most basic of enemies and is extremely well conceived.
While there are some tough monsters, the main enemy in Zelda is the puzzle aspect of the game. Ocarina of Time forces you to think before you act, with numerous puzzles spread throughout the entire game. Some puzzles must be solved simply to exit a room, while other, larger puzzles sometimes cover an entire area. Some of the game's puzzles are totally optional, usually rewarding you with a piece of a heart container - which you'll need, but you won't have to collect every single one as long as you're quick with the Master Sword. The game's items are the usual assortment you've come to expect from a Zelda game. The boomerang is an invaluable tool for young Link, as is the slingshot. These weapons are mere toys for Link's adult body, however, so you'll be using the bow and the hookshot (or grappling hook) for most of the game's latter portions. Bombs, of course, come in handy no matter how old you are. The ocarina is probably the most-used item in the game. Throughout the entire game, you'll learn various tunes for the ocarina. Playing these tunes does a lot of different things, such as turning night to day, opening certain doors, calling your horse, and warping from place to place. In a
This is the ultimate Zelda lovers game! It was ONE of the most challenging of all the series of Zelda games. This was also the first time for Link to be in a 3 dimensional world! Of course, compared to the graphics on the new systems out today there is no justice to it, but the N64 was a giant leap for Nintendo. You were finally able to move in more than 4 directions and were able to experience what it was like to ride on your horse Epona! It was really amazing to have real depth to the video game. The N64 was the system for my generation, I believe any true rpg gamer will throughly enjoy this spectacular quest through time in the middle ages.
I found this game to be one of the most difficult, the dungeons were awesome, they became more difficult the further you went on with the game, along with the side quests that were necessary to complete the entire game. It took me quite a while to beat OOT, 6 months to be precise. This game is huge and full of difficult tasks to fulfill. I loved how everytime you earned a new item it would prove itself quite useful for the task ahead. I enjoyed the puzzles of OOT too, it really makes you think, sometimes you would have to just quit because you couldn't figure it out. Later, it would dawn on you and you would be excited because you figured it out!
Another awesome aspect of the game was your huge arsenal of weaponry! Mainly you were in the quest for the search of the MASTER SWORD, the sword with the power to seal away the evils bane! There was also the BIG GORONS SWORD which was a difficult sidequest, the poor giant Goron who makes swords has an eye infection, you must get him his magic eye salve in time before it spoils. When you played the young Link you found several of your most useful items in the first dungeon inside the great Deku tree. There was your fairy slingshot, your boomerang, your wooden shield, and deku nuts & seeds that you could buy from deku salesmen hiding in the rooms of the dungeon.
After you completed the task of finding the 3 stones needed to open the Temple of Time, you find yourself faced with the evil Gannon! You must remove the MASTER SWORD from its resting place and travel into the future. The present is now a dark and menacing world, it is now ruled by the evil Ganondorf! You must defeat the bosses of the elemental temples and save the sages who guard them! They will aide you in the end of your search for the evil ruler of Hyrule! You must destroy Gannon and get out of the tower before it collapses on you and princess Zelda! That's not the end, he reincarnates himself to his true nature! A giant beast! Destroy him with the power of the light and the kingdom of Hyrule will be saved! You then are free of your task and may continue your life as a child again....not for long though. There are many more adventures awaiting Link!!!
I think anyone who enjoys Zelda or any RPG game will find this a very satisfying way to spend free time! I sure did, this is the game that ultimately got me addicted to the series of Zelda games!
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time debuted in 1998 and was immediately heralded as one of the greatest games of its time. 14 years have passed since, and Ocarina's status has only risen. It is considered the Benchmark of the Zelda series, to which all games since have been compared. While Mario 64 was Nintendo's first fully 3D game, Ocarina (released two years later) perfected the gameplay mechanics Mario 64 introduced, while simultaneously superseding it in terms of new gameplay concepts, story, level design, and atmosphere.
There are many versions of Ocarina available to purchase. The original Japanese release, packaged in a monochromatic box. The original US release was dubbed the Collector's Edition and was only available to those who preordered the game. The Collector's Edition box is gold with holographing rays emanating from the Zelda logo, "Collector's Edition" displayed near the bottom, and the cartridge inside is metallic gold. The standard release had a similar box, sans holographic rays, and the cartridge inside is grey. There was also a re-release of the game in 1999 as the Game of the Year, with artwork describing thus. The PAL version of the game came with black/gold cover artwork. Ocarina of Time was later released on the Nintendo Gamecube as Ocarina of Time: Master Quest, with more difficult dungeons, and later still completely redone in 3D and released to the Nintendo 3DS as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.
Ocarina of Time, in any of its incarnations, is a must-own game. If you only play one video game in your life, Ocarina should be that game.
The may like of this game is that ur surrounded with suffering enemies to demolish and kill . The bosses are way insane , puzzling , consuming to beat , even if you had weapons . It will still be tough to beat for your first time if you are a beginner like me . The weapons are so particular triumphant of the defense abilites and the sword just has a way of fighting in most games the controlling will give you a hard time . but this one is a definately one to take . but let's pass all of that mysterious mistake liking about the game . Let's talk about the story that I love most of all . It starts out when link rides a callous horse and the introduction begins as the deku tree talking about this legendnary boy that will become fierce , dull , and have a loving relationship with Hyrule . And about how he will basket the evil and turn it against the light of the hyrule world . Then link has a ordinary vision what he might meet in the future . After that it is time that the great fairy meet's you . She makes you feel like a retard and so self amused when it comes to Hyrule . but once for all u just fight , talk to strange town's folk , beat brutal bosses , carrie out the legendnary blade and be mature and grown up . And so many thing's I must'ent tell you unless you buy this game for a reasonable price! I love this game , and I do not be threatened who buy's this game . It's one of the best you will play till ur 39 years old or just play it if u get bored of your sports , music , movies , books , school work , or ya whatever! The only thing this game turned me down is pretty much nothing . this game is worth a 10.0 in ign , gamespot , or other reviewing website . It will never beat the old super mario bros . but give it a shot! I know you will like it in fact once you come to the last resolving end . Ganondorf wil be the toughest boss u ever fought and the music is glorious too . So buy this game if this is sold out , then better luck next time . There's alway's more to come!
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64 game console is one of the best, if not THE best RPG ever made for the system. I consider myself to be an extremely avid Nintendo gamer, but this game challenged me more than any other I had ever played. The length of the game is almost unsurpassed, seeing as how so many games today can be played through in a day or two. It has all the elements of a Zelda game we have come to know and enjoy, like the weapons ranging from the Kokiri sword (and eventually obtaining the Master Sword), bombs, bow and arrows, grappling hook, and many more. This is also the first game in the line where you get to ride horseback, on your trusty horse Epona. Starting off you play as a young Link, who was taken in by the Kokiri forest natives and raised as one of their own. As you progress through the game towards the ultimate goal of Defeating Ganon and his minions and stopping them from taking over all of Hyrule, you eventually open the Temple of Time and retrieve the Master Sword. When that happens you are taken 7 years into the future and reappear there as the more commonly known "adult" Link. You must travel to all of the spirit temples scattered all around the land of Hyrule and retrieve all the sage stones to reawaken the power of the sages to help you defeat Ganon. Ocarina of Time provides countless hours of exciting entertainment, and it's one of those games where you'll want to play it again after you beat it, and not throw it under the bed or somewhere else never to be played again. GO LINK!
