A fire in the boiler room leads to the sinking of a luxury liner in THE LAST VOYAGE. No miniature models were used in the filming; they actually sunk a real ship! This is a good disaster movie. What keeps it from being great (on the scale of TITANIC, for example) is that many of the actors deliver their lines like...well, like actors delivering lines. Just as you're getting caught up in the danger, a character's reaction will be so bland or so overly melodramatic that you're jolted into remembering that this is just a movie, not life or death. While some of the situations parallel incidents on the MORRO CASTLE and the ANDREA DORIA, the plot is not based on a real-life sinking. However, fans of shipwreck stories should enjoy this film.
a fantastic disaster at sea film, which includes the producers actually sinking the ship, the ill de france.
the best actor in this film is the late woody strode, a fantastic actor, whose contribution to film making is grossly under rated, and reported. he played an important role in the john wayne classic, "the man who shot liberty valance" (pompy).
robert stack gives his usual wooden performance, he can be over looked here also. lines are delivered in the typical methodical, wooden style. george sanders shines as the captain.
5 out of 5 stars.
pre-dates the posideon adventure, and is just as exciting.
The pre-Titanic movie! The Last Voyage. Very engrossing to watch! Has some great special effect`s for it`s time. The acting is all good. Yes, one of those ship sinking movies that leave`s you right on the edge of your seat, and chewing off every fingernail you have. It will keep you enthralled at what`s going to happen next. The acting is great, the filming is great, this is a classic that will never go out of style. I liked this movie a lot more than a Night To Remember, or Titanic (original). This movie was good from the very start to the ending. Your time won`t be wasted on this one! Get the wife, cuddle up, grab the blankie, the tissue , and the life jacket`s cause it`s gonna be a rough ride!
If you loved The Poseidon Adventure and A Night to Remember, you'll LOVE this movie! Campy, melodramatic, over the top, it's good fun...the characters are cliche', but the formula works. The only thing that puzzled me is the shirtless sailors, and why were half of them half naked?! Also, after the explosion, half of the passengers are asian! Exciting, suspensful!
Very good old classic filmed before Titanic. Similar in nature with ship sinking though not on the grand scale of today's movies. Robert Stack is excellent and I also like Woody. Movie was a little campy but still very good.
