A movie for the hopeless romantics among us.

    Review For: Ladyhawke (VHS)

Once or twice in a lifetime a movie comes along that can be viewed over and over again and the desire to view it yet again still remains fresh. Ladyhawke (1985) Staring: Matthew Broderick, Rutger Hauer, Michelle Pfeiffer is one of those movies that I will never tire of seeing.

I supposed I might feel less so, had I not seen it the first time on a giant screen, in a very dark movie theater, with thundering Dolby sound pounding the walls around me. The opening scene with sun so large the ripping of flames shooting up off the surface could be clearly seen and sets the mood for all that is to follow.

The main cast was quite small. And the style and delivery of each actor seemed to work especially well. Rutger Hauer's always stiff portrayals could not have been done better by any other. Matthew Broderick was pure magic in the role of The Mouse. A flawless mix of sharp witted comic and unwilling tragic survivor, he was able to carry almost the entire film single-handedly. Michelle Pfeiffer spent much of the movie embodied in the body of the Hawk, emerging as the beautiful shadowy beauty each night only to return again as the prisoner and victim. She managed to show great inner strength while being forever trapped by a powerful shared love with a man she could never touch, yet who was her traveling companion and protector. She referred to herself as Sorrow and that she was.

This is a movie for the hopeless romantics among us, I suppose. I have surely watched Ladyhawke 2 dozen times. And I hope to do so 2 dozen more and then more again.

If you are a romantic soul, and have not seen this movie, consider getting a copy. Try to view it at least the first time on a very large screen, in a very dark room with the music turned up very high.

Thank you for reading my review.

    Review For: Ladyhawke (VHS, 1998)

I like movies with some wholesome flavor to them, this is one of my favorites from years ago. Nice story and great actors...Matthew Broderick when very young!! I happened to be naming off some of my favorite movies to a friend when I thought, I wonder if I can buy this movie on ebay. Sure enough, I found a copy to buy and it was in excellent condition and very cheap. Love shopping on ebay. Whatever you are looking for, you are sure to find it on ebay and at a very reasonable price. I hate to pay full price for something.

    One of my VERY FAVORITES!!!

A story about a Curse, a corrupt Priest and a Love that defied darkness. This was the first movie I had ever seen Michelle P. in and her beauty was flawless, as I love Romance novels this movie really appealed to me. Rutger Hauer was every woman's Noble Knight. Matthew Broderich was so funny as was the priest that lived in the run-down castle.
I highly recommend this movie for youngsters as the story is exciting and tells the story that LOVE truimphs over Evil. A Priest in love with a woman he can not have, the captain of the guard is in love with the same woman who loves him as well. The Priest can't have her and finds out that the 2 are in love and damn them to a life forever apart. There is a thief (Matthew B.) who is the only known person to have escaped the dungeons of Aquilar, Navarre (Rutgar H.) happens upon him hears of this is and is greatly interested in getting into the Fortress of Aquilar to destroy the corrupt priest who has damned himself, Navarre and Isabeau (Michelle P.) (sigh) what lovely names.....

The guards of Aquilar have been told to recapture the theif (Matthew) and return/and or kill him to the dungeons. Of course these guards are the same guards that used to answer to Navarre. Wonderfully exciting story and a mystery too!!
