Stellar looks mediocre performance

Since the LG VX9400 came out in mid 2007 I've always wanted one. I even switched cell carriers to get one, only to find out it was no longer offered. Then watching the first IRON MAN movie when they showed it just fueled my fire. I have been using the VX9400 for one month now and I am no longer impressed. Despite its bold good looks, having the directional pad BELOW the keypad is cumbersome to use. And having to swing it open to use keypad when on a call to put in passwords or anything, makes it difficult to hear out of. I enjoy the simplicity of LG's menu. I like the VCAST TV and music features. The web browsing is just as good as any non-smartphone (which means not worth having). Overall its a OK phone that seams well built, durable, looks good but takes lots of practice to get used to texting on it (I still haven't). You can now understand some of my disappointment in it. I am glad I bought it but would not buy it again.

Works great, looks great

I love this phone! I had the same model a while ago, but it broke and when I went to replace it, it was discontinued. I ended up getting a different replacement phone and compared to this one, I hated it. I kept the replacement for a year until I just had to have this phone again! Now that I'm using the LG VX9400 again it's so much easier to talk on the phone without pushing buttons accidentally and to text without accidentally canceling the message. I don't even use the tv feature on this phone, and I still love it! It's easy to hold and the screen is big for a slide phone. The only downside is that it takes about a week to adjust to the fact that the arrow keys and ok key is below the numbers, but it's so easy after the first week.

Great phone

This phone is very easy to use. It has a standard phone keypad, rather than the full keyboard that many phones have these days. I don't like the phones with full keyboards usually because they are awkward shapes and just too big, so I love that this phone is still pretty compact. This is not a flip-phone, but the screen swivels. When in the closed position, the send, end, clear, ok, and arrow buttons are visible/able to be used, and then one must swivel the screen open to use the keypad. You can use the phone in either direction you like and can open/close the phone during phone calls as you wish. This phone does have the TV capabilities, however I have never used them so I can't comment on that aspect. I bought this phone form the Verizon store in June 2007, and it lasted me to June 2010. I replaced the battery once over those three years, and it remained in great physical condition considering numerous falls, so it is a very durable phone. In June 2010 I went to the Verizon store to replace my phone as the scratches were starting to bother me, and upon finding no phones of interest to me for the aforementioned reasons of awkward shape and size, I decided to order this phone again off eBay. This phone is great and will certainly satisfy you.

LG makes another great phone

The VX9400 is an excellent upgrade from the Chocolate phone that I had owned previously. Dont get me wrong, I loved my Chocolate, but after too many accidental call outs it was time for something else.
First of all, it looks great. The swivel screen definitely grabs attention. Whenever i'd take it out to use it people would always say "wow, that's a cool phone." The next thing they'd always say is "can you talk with it open like that?" Well yes you can, but you dont have to. LG makes it so you can dial your number, then swivel the screen back to the "closed" position and continue your call. Next is "why does it open like that?" So then i get to explain that you can watch tv on it (not available in my area yet) - cool! You can also purchase a neat belt clip that doubles as a tv stand - nice!
Aside from the looks and tv capability, the VX9400 is very similar to the Chocolate in features. As usual pictures are great, full of color and sharp. Video is a HUGE improvement. At high quality (320X240 res) pixelation is minimal. Movements are smooth and sound quality is exceptional. The VX9400 also lets you video in 15 second clips or up to 1 hour.
The VX9400 has a nice big speaker which makes listening to music even without external speakers a pleasant experience. The sound is rich compared to other phones. Ringtones sound especially nice! One thing i do miss is a dedicated music button.
There is a dedicated camera button, but it doesnt work if the screen is in the closed position - weird. You have to swivel the screen open, press the camera button, then use the camera or you can swivel the screen back down and press "OK" to continue to use the camera. Its still less work than going through the menu to get to the camera, but still, it wouldve been nice to access the camera with the screen closed.
One notable feature is that you can edit pictures after you take them - change to b&w, resize, even crop. Then after editing, just press "save" and it will store your new edited pic, not overwrite the original picture.
Texting will take a little bit to get used to. The number buttons are behind the screen and up away a bit from the navigation keys which are needed to change to numbers and symbols, case, etc. Text fanatics will get a nice thumb workout. One small gripe about texting, the text inbox is rather shallow. at about 50-60 texts it will start warning you that your inbox is getting full. This can be remedied by setting the "auto erase" feature but still rather dissapointing when other phones can hold hundreds of texts before you have to start erasing.
PROS: Great Pictures (up to 1280X960 res)thanks to 1.3 mega pixel cam, Great Video quality (and video capture up to 1 hour), nice loud speaker, great sound quality, TV capability, Recent Call folder is huge (i have calls stored from April), Nice LG display theme, Great display - screen is big, clear and colorful, very durable phone (i have already dropped mine numerous times - even once in water - still works perfectly - it didnt even shut off.)
CONS: No dedicated music button, signal reception is a bit weaker than most phones, texting needs getting used to, need to Swivel open screen to access camera, video, Get It Now, and VCast, battery life is mediocre at best.
Overall I enjoy my VX9400. I've had it for a few months now and have been quite happy with it as an upgrade to my Chocolate
