LG VX5500 - Black (Verizon) Cellular Phone

There are 2 versions of this model phone LG VX5500.
Regular postpaid (contract) and Prepaid
I needed a postpaid version of this phone for service with PagePlus through kitty wireless. This phone was the closest to my previous phone LG 220c with Net10. The main difference it has a camera, and a better battery. LG is very intuitively laid out, This phone also has a voice command button for Ease of use or the Visually impaired, just hit the voice command button on the side and say "Call name or number, Go to Calendar, Go To Contacts etc.. This is the perfect no frills phone for a Children or seniors or the visually impaired with the voice command features it's small light, and easy to use. Great Easy to use phone

I bought this phone because my previous LGVX5500 was dropped in water. It has all the features I needed and I knew how to use it. The phone has many features I don't have turned on or I don't use, like taking pictures. The battery life is very good, I don't use it constantly like kids do, but I have it on 24/7, so I get about 5-7 days on a charge. It has 3 alarm clock settings and is easy to set, although I dislike the several steps of first cancelling an alarm to be able to set a new alarm, but that is a Verizon menu program function. The seller's price was excellent, about 1/4th of what the Verizon dealer wanted and it came with the AC wall charger. Lastly, although the water had shorted out the screen, the Verizon tech folks were able to load my address book to my new phone when they activated the phone.

Must say this phone (and almost all other LG phones I've gotten wet) survives getting wet, my aunt owned this phone and washed it in the washer. It got full cycle- then dryer. It worked through it, and it just needed a little bit of drying- and had key marks on the screen.

Soon after the phone started restarting, so a new battery was ordered by her. When it was placed in, the phone continued to work just as it did day 1.

this is incredibly durable. My cousin who isn't exactly the most easiest on the phones that he owns, has the same phone (5500) and tossed his on the ground a lot, dropped it, and even had it run over with a mower (without blades running. Incredibly the phone survived. Each phone HAS never been used in a case.

However- my cousin HAS NEVER gotten his wet, and the screen has key marks fossiled to the screen. I hear it's common with this model, but it doesn't even have RAZR like keys (I've experienced with the RAZR and I can seee why it does this with the blue ridges) Both phones have done this, but my aunts started RIGHT after getting wet.

Sound quality is also amazing, for an entry level phone there is a LOT of plusses to it, when I got my Samsung Intensity phone, when we got forwards and sounds and stuff, 50 percent of the time my phone sounded like it was a recorded sound, when the same fwd from the same person was sent to my cousin it sounded like an mp3 file. It happened a lot when I owned the intensity, which is one reason I left that phone.

Overall this phone is small, really small, and has a couple little drawbacks, with the w screen getting marked easily, and the battery going out that one time, but overall, I'd get this phone. Amazing phone.

I never expected the sound on this phone to be that loud for an entry level phone. I'd get it for that and the durability.

I was looking for a basic phone that my kids and I both could use (we share power cords and accessories). It has more than enough features for me and, while they don't have the latest, the kids have a reasonable model that I got for a reasonable price. If someone loses it, it's no big financial loss. It's easy to figure out the functions-the kids didn't even need the manual. It's held up after being dropped a fair amount. Less than average battery draw, doesn't need a charge every day!

This phone was a replacement for a broken phone with similar features. This is very good basic phone. Class both sent and received are clear and easily heard and understood when talking with others. This is a basic phone without the bells and whistles but for a person who just uses it for phones calls and do not "live" on the phone it is great. The battery life seems to be lacking but it might be my fault as the camera button is easily hit and I might be hitting that when I put it in my purse. I will need to check that out a little better. However, you cannot go wrong with this phone if you just want a basic phone.
