Badly designed machine

Would not recommend this machine. Bought on the net it would not froth milk properly and after the brew, there was much hot water on top of the coffee grounds resulting in a very messy procedure. I emailed Krups to complain who
told me that as it had been bought from an unofficial supplier it carried no warranty. I asked the supplier to contact Krups who later telephoned me to apologise and offered to repair the machine. I insisted on a replacement only having had the machine for a few weeks. Replacement arrived with same problems
and also the dangerous persistent fault of blowing off the steam frother nozzle - definitely not acceptable. My judgement - Inherently bad design as steam frother cannot be regulated.

Great Expresso maker

Good quality, love this machine makes great quality coffee, cappuccino and expresso, KRUPS is very well known in Europe and the reason why i bought it is because i was certain i would get a high quality machine, a couple family members have bought these Krups expresso machines over 5 years ago and they are still impressed with them. I cant say enough good things about it just taste your coffee and you'll see the difference. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

so far... Great!!

I expected way less after some of the reviews I read but so far this machine has to my surprise actually hands down outperformed our Gaggia Carezza machine.
I bought a reconditioned unit and in the couple of months months that I've had it no problems at all under heavy usage, nice thick crema and great coffee!
The frothing thing is indeed pretty fool proof, I don't use it much but I tried it a couple of times, each successfully.
I wish the filter was a little bigger but that's just because I'm one of those espresso out of regular cups drinking kind of fiend...

The pros:
compact, reliably great coffee, solidly built, nice design

The cons:
won't do a sextuplet shot at once, might not impress hyped-up hipster friends

Krups XP 4000

Nice looking machine. But harder to use to than our Mr. Coffee machine. Seems a lot messier to make our Lattes.

Krups XP 4000 Espresso Machine by DW

My daughter and her boyfriend had a difficult time following the directions and getting it to work properly. I had a slightly easier time, but it took a while to match the directions, parts, and pictures. Could be because we've never had one before and none of our friends do either - we've just seen them at coffee shops.
It works fine now. You have to be sure to push the water container all the way down... it stops at about 1/8" short of hitting the bottom, even though it looks as if it is all the way down and the top closes.
