|Unlike conventional systems that use a corrective system built into the lens, DiMAGE Z5 features a unique Konica Minolta innovation that actually shifts the CCD to counteract the effects of camera shake. This avoids the sacrifices in optical quality conventional systems are forced to make, assuring you of the beautiful results you want, free of the blurring that so often spoils handheld photography. What's more, Anti-Shake is driven by an exclusive algorithm that offers stability over a wider range than conventional systems (2 to 3 shutter speeds slower than the standard estimate for a scene, depending on shooting conditions). When you're panning to follow your subject, unwanted Anti-Shake compensation can ruin your shot. DiMAGE Z5's advanced Anti-Shake system is designed to recognize the difference between panning movement and unwanted camera-shake, and apply compensation accordingly.Get close to the action, even from a distance with DiMAGE Z5's powerful Mega Zoom. The 12x optical zoom lens provides a focal length equivalent to 420mm to let you fill the frame with far-off subjects. Plus 4x digital zoom takes the number to an incredible 48x total zoom range. The camera's high-resolution 5.0-megapixel CCD and high-performance GT APO lens are teamed with Konica Minolta's proprietary CxProcess III image processing technology to ensure dazzling image quality. CxProcess III technology not only enhances edge definition and shadow/highlight detail, it also assures rich, natural, fully saturated colors, rendered just as the human eye perceives them.A big new 2-inch LCD monitor makes it easier to see your subject and compose your shots. The larger screen size also lets you see greater detail when you're reviewing images, and boosts the legibility of on-screen menus and function settings to assure greater operating ease.DiMAGE Z5 sets a new standard for speed and accuracy in autofocusing. Thanks to Video AF and a continuous lens drive, DiMAGE Z5 focuses in an astonishingly fast 0.2 seconds at wide angle and 0.3 seconds at telephoto. No fuss, no waiting - just beautiful results, automatically.|

New or used, this is a state of the art camera with a 2 inch digital screen to view the newly-taken images
An SD card makes this highly accessible to many printers and computers. A USB cable adds flexibility to image transfer. Battery life is optimal (4-6 hr) of continuous and several uses when using at various times.
Rechargeable AA batteries seem to double the usage capability. Optional Macro lens makes this a great camera to assist any e bayer to take those ultra-close, ultra-detailed images for posting. The optional telephoto lens and filter allows even more than the 48X zoom by adding another 60X for an incredible
960X or telescopic capabilities. This feature is great for moon shots. The ant-shake mechanism is unequalled and amazing. Using a tripod also allows for maximum telephoto shots. Close-up and high speed athletic shots are crisp and virtually devoid of any noise. The 8 settings can make this camera into a simple point and shoot to a manual setting with exposure options and professional-use capability. Awesome camera for the money. Compares well with my Nikon SLR and less than half the price!
This is my second Z series KM camera and the fourth minolta digital camera I've owned. The Z10 I had took better pictures than any digital camera I have ever had or even tried from friends, I figured since I could get a used one fairly reasonable, I'd upgrade.
The Z5 definately looks and feels like an upgrade. Solid and well made. However the much reported noise problem of the Z6, less complained about in the Z5, is a factual reality. How much it will affect your use of this camera is iffy. Taking pictures outdoors in deeper zoom settings around sundown, it is readily apparant and if that's all I used the camera for I'd be very disappointed. However in good daylight it's not a factor at all, and indoor with flash the results are great. Like many point and shoots, you're best off not second guessing the camera's abilities are worse than yours, and leaving it on auto gets me the best shots nearly all the time. So I can't help but think that most people complaining about noise may be fiddling too much with manual settings and while other cameras are more forgiving, this one's following your commands to the letter so to speak and giving you the results you asked for.
The anti-shake works well. I actually upgraded from two cameras to two newer cameras, the KM Z series as described here, and from a Nikon S4 to a Nikon S10. I was surprised to find the real winner was the S10-I really am impressed by the S10's image performance- though it doesn't seem to be the solid piece in your hand the Z5 does.
So the noise is the only thing which prevents 5 stars, but I will reiterate it does not spoil the camera completely.
It is very Nice camera for making crisp clear picture at very short distance, camera keeps excellent focus at 1 cm distance; usage of macro-S and zoom futures gives you image with high magnification and unbelievable clarity !This is my second Minolta Konica Dimage. I also have Z2 camera which I use for my work to make macro pictures of the tiny objects. Konica Minolta Dimage Z5 is definitively excellent buy since it has the same high quality glass lenses plus anti-shake stability system as improvement.
this is probably the best camera I have. I have a Konica 5D (DLR), a minoz, Konica 35 mm camera and aBout 3 other point and shoot digitals. This camera is very light and has the capability to put filter on and also add micro and telephotos. It is also very well balance and takes magnificant photos. I had purchased the Konica Z1 when it first came out. Its draw back was you could not add filters or lenses. This camera is wonderful for traveling. I would, however, use the DLR when I would want a lot more in a picture other than travel scenes of vacation. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE FROM NOVICE TO A PROFESSIONAL.
I purchased this camera about three years ago to take pictures of items to sell on Ebay. For this use I have found it to be excellent. I wanted the ability to focus on the smallest details or writing and it never lets me down. I have also sold larger items with the same excellent results. I just purchased a used one on ebay for my parents to list items. I would highly recommend this model.
