|Minolta takes another revolutionary step in the evolution of the digital camera with the introduction of the DiMAGE X. With Minolta's exclusive optical system that places the 3x optical zoom lens inside the flat camera body without ever requiring the lens to extend externally, the camera is on of the thinnest, smallest and lightest 3x optical zoom digital camera with built-in flash on the market today. The 3x optical zoom brings out the best of the CCD with 2.0 million effective pixels. The lens is a bright f/2.8 to f/3.6 with three aspheric elements that are aligned with sub-micron order precision to ensure crisp and detailed images.|

I LOVE this camera. I purchased this model camera several years ago, but lost it recently on a trip. I was delighted to find the same make/model on eBay. It was one of the original digital cameras, I believe. It fits into any small pocket, is light, and takes great pictures. I borrowed a newer digital camera after having lost mine. The newer models have many upgraded features, which are great - but I missed my original. I'm so glad to have a replacement.
I bought this camera for my daughter because of the built-in lens, it's small size, and camera/photo quality, plus kids love the video clip with sound feature. I figured people upgrade cameras all the times, so I was looking for an older quality camera with features she was used to in my camera. I'm used to a bigger screen, but it's not too bad. I had never used a Minolta before, but it was pretty easy to figure out and after you go into the menu a few times, you get used to the layout. Every brand is at least a little different and takes some getting used to. I wanted to get a small simple-to-use digital camera that takes quality pictures that she would be satisfied with for a number of years, and this is it. Nowhere in the instruction manual does it say the maximum card size - I bought a 2GB card and it didn't work. It will only take up to 1GB. Luckily I was able to resell the first card, so I wasn't out anything. A 1GB card on the fine setting will hold 1032 still pictures. Takes very nice photos. Turns on and off very quickly, and the camera is made very well. You will want at least one spare battery, as the battery life is not the best (it's not the worst either). Very satisfied with my purchase.
The two things that sold me on this camera were:
1. the real time viewfinder (real time = zooms with optical zoom similar to an SLR). This is very important to us older photographers who are used to SLR's and have a difficult time with LCD picture composing. I have also come to learn that turning off your LCD extends your battery time by 3-4 times. Also, the optical viewfinder never fades out in bright sunlight.
2. a 3x zoom inside a sealed case. No lens extending mechanism exposed to the elements. The one common killer of extension-style lenses is sand. With the periscope-style mechanism sealed inside the case, this cannot happen.
Only from the minds of Minolta.
My husband gave me this camera abotu five years ago, it was my first digital camera. I later gave it to my mother when I upgraded my camera to the latest model of the same company (an 8 MP minolta), however I was extremely disspointed with the new 'replacement' camera. The Dimage X 2.0 MP was much more sharp/clear in resolution, and took higher quality photos. The colors were also more accurate, and had fewer blurry phots with the Dimage X 2.0 then with the Dimage X1 8.0 which came with a supposed anti shake feature. Ended up selling the Dimage X1 8.0 to a camera store, and bought a replacement used Dimage X 2.0 from ebay!
This is one heck of a camera. Definitely from the minds of Minolta. Excellent picture quality and powerful zoom, especially for a camera of this size. Also shoots video. The only thing that I don't like is the location of the viewfinder. You have to be careful not to cover it with your finger when shooting a picture.
