I know this is an old camera. But it's amazingly simple to use with amazing picture quality. Also you have many options you can use it as a picture frame with the frame/ charger it came with. A/V output on the camera itself, straight dc charger so you don't have to use the usb. You can even go to optical view that'll save battery power by turning off the digital screen. But the main reason I bought this one is that it takes great close up photos, that my other camera the nikon p510 can't seem to get.
This camera really excels in daylight situations. The images are crisp and clear, and have lively colors. The 10x zoom is awesome, and so is the lens, sharp as a tack.
All and all, this is a great point and shoot camera. I'd say unbeatable at its price point. A definite recommend if you're looking for a camera with a long zoom and image stabilization. I bought it for snapping everyday situations, sporting events and concerts.
This camera sports quite a few customizable settings, such as exposure compensation, exposure bracketing and white balance setting, which is generally rare in cameras at this price point. Apart from the easy, standard, Intelligent ISO and macro modes it sports two customizable scene modes. They allow you to pre-select the scene types that you'll be shooting most during an event, and allows you to quickly switch between them.
One of these scene modes is one for baby pictures which allows you to enter the birthdate of your baby (actually it supports two different birthdates), such that the camera can keep track of, and display the age of your baby in the picture! Pretty nifty.
A rare feature of this camera is it ability to show an image histogram...live. That means that you can verify that you'll get a good exposure of your scene before you snap it. I haven't seen this feature on a camera before.
The 3" LCD is great. Once you go 3" you'll never go back to something smaller. I also own a Canon EOS 20D DSLR which sports a 1.8" LCD... well I'm upgrading it soon to one with a 3" LCD.
Those were the good points. Now for the bad points...
Whereas it states in the literature for this camera that it has extended ISO to 1250, which is true, the image quality at this setting is not impressive. The image quality above ISO 400 is less than I had hoped for. There is quite a lot of noise in pictures taken in difficult and dark scenes, using an ISO setting higher than ISO 200. I'd like to stress though that this affects DARK scenes and scenes with a wide luminance gamut.
The main control dial is in an awkward location. It sits on top of the camera. I would have liked to see it as a thumbwheel on the side of the camera.
Battery life is not good. It'll take about 200-300 pix on one charge. This may sound like a lot, but my EOS 20D does 1000 on one charge. When I take pictures, I take a lot of pictures of the same scene and the same subject, which means that I'll probably deplete a battery faster than a normal picture taker. It is something to keep in mind. Luckily the battery recharges pretty fast.
The LCD scratches fairly easily. It has a protective pane of plastic, which I would have preferred to have been glass. Get a good camera case with a soft inner lining. I quite like the Lowepro D-Pods 20 for it. Snug fit. I had the camera in my shorts pocket (soft fabric, nothing else in the pocket) and there were small, and I do mean small, scratches across the LCD. You have to hold the camera at an angle against light to see them.
I originally had this nice little camera that worked well. It was a casio exlim (sp?) Convenience was its best feature, because it could be put anywhere. However, there was a distinct lacking, and that took the form of a small optical zoom. There was a digital zoom, but that never really looked all that good. I was considering replacing it when it was stolen... Anyway, I wanted a camera that had a really good optical zoom, and I found it in the form of the Lumix! 10X optical zoom is just flat out awesome, but even more, this camera captures the colors much better than other cameras I have looked at, and to suggest that I am impressed by the product is to make a profound understatement!!
For the money, I don't believe there is another product out there that can top it. In fact more expensive cameras can not top it! It is a great little camera, and if one buys it, he/she will be very happy!
I bought it based on reviews I had researched. I wanted a better zoom than my Nikon Cool Pix, but not a big bulky camera. It has a powerful 10X Zoom, allowing me to take pictures of my horses across the field in our pasture. It has many great features, takes great pictures, but is still a compact, small camera. It has a rechargeable battery, which eliminates the hassel of traveling with extra batteries. It is very user friendly and everything I was looking for in a 10X Zoom, compact camera, at a very reasonable cost.
These Kodak V550 cameras are amazing!!! I have some examples on http://photobucket.com/nynj11 the video quality is amazing also even in low light conditions.
I own 3 of these, 2 are working and 1 for parts.
The LAST Kodak pocket size digital camera to have an actual OPTICAL Viewfinder.
