| Continuing from Killzone 2, players find Emperor Visari, the viscious dictator of the Helghast, dead at the feet of Sev and Rico. However this war is far from won. In the wake of Visari's death, Helghan has devolved into a world of political scheming, rapid infighting, and murder. Now, the two most powerful men on Helghan are fighting for complete and utter dominance while Visari's vision of Helghan is in jeopardy. With limited supplies and no re-enforcements, the ISA must now fight not to win a war, but to survive a lost one. In Killzone 3, players once again face the hostile Helghast army, battling overwhelming odds in the fight for human survival. Killzone 3 delivers a single-player campaign as well as full featured multiplayer mode. | |

The gameplay strongly resembles that of Killzone 2 albeit with several tweaks and changes. Similar to the first Killzone, the game takes place in various harsh environments such as Arctic landscapes, a lethal alien jungle, nuclear wastelands as well as space battles rather than only the city-scape environments which were present in Killzone 2. Another notable new feature is the ability to use jet packs in the game, which were also used in Killzone: Liberation, however, these new jet packs will be used in a different manner than that of those in Killzone: Liberation.
The game also features a revamped close combat melee system (called Brutal Melee) which includes new brutal melee attacks as well as the ability to string together multiple attacks in a combo. A new weapon called the WASP has also been added, which acts as a multi-firing rocket launcher.
Killzone 3 supports offline split-screen co-operation for two players, a feature not present in Killzone 2. With this mode, two players can play the campaign of Killzone 3 offline. This is the only mode that supports offline split-screen multiplayer in Killzone 3. There is also an offline multiplayer mode named 'BotZone' in which players can play against computer bots.
Online multiplayer of Killzone 3 supports three different game modes: Guerilla Warfare, Warzone, and Operations. "Guerilla Warfare" is a classic team death match style game that supports up to 16 players per map for each map that supports this mode. "Warzone", returning from Killzone 2's multiplayer, is an objective based game (seven objectives: "Body Count", "Capture and Hold", "Search and Retrieve", and two rounds of "Assassination" and "Search and Destroy" respectively) that supports up to 24 players per map for each map that supports this mode. "Operations" is a new game mode that features cinematic scenes and supports up to 16 players per map for each map that supports this mode. In Operations, the ISA and the Helghast battle for control of specific objectives - the ISA on the offensive and the Helghast on defense. The best players are featured throughout the match in cutscenes depicting their successes.
There are a total of eight multiplayer maps on disk, including Corinth Highway, Pyrrhus Crater, Bilgarsk Boulevard, Turbine Concourse SE-6, Frozen Dam, Akmir Snowdrift, Mawlr Graveyard, and Kaznan Jungle. Guerilla Warfare is supported on the Pyrrhus Crater, Bilgarsk Boulevard, Frozen Dam, Akmir Snowdrift, and Kaznan Jungle maps. Warzone is supported on all maps except the Kaznan Jungle map. Operations is supported on the Frozen Dam, Akmir Snowdrift, and Mawlr Graveyard maps.
A new feature to Killzone multiplayer for Killzone 3 is the ability to use vehicle-like mechanisms: the jet packs and Exos (each available on one game disc map respectively). The jet packs are exclusive to the Turbine Concourse SE-6 map while the Exos, as well as the WASP rocket launcher created by the Engineer, are only available on the Corinth Highway map. Another new feature is the ability to use Mortar Beacons, which can be used if a Tactician captures a tactical spawn point from which the Mortar Beacons are found. Mortar Beacons are featured on the Corinth Highway, Pyrrhus Crater, Bilgarsk Boulevard, Frozen Dam, and Mawlr Graveyard maps. Miniguns can be created by the Engineer on the Pyrrhus Crater, Bilgarsk Boulevard, and Turbine Concourse SE-6 maps. A snowstorm is featured on the Akmir Snowdrift map and a crusher (which the player can contr
Every action you do in Killzone is immersive; the combat more intense and savage than other shooters. It's this design that makes Killzone 3 so engrossing and fun despite its weak story. With the fantastic pacing and set pieces in the campaign, along with the improved, fun multiplayer, Guerilla's crafted a must own for PS3 shooting enthusiasts.Killzone 3 is all about a war between two factions of humans. On one side, we have the ISA, the good guys with human faces; on the other side are the Helghast, the red-goggled, mask-wearing enemies who are hell bent on subduing the rest of the universe. Killzone 3 picks up right where two left off, with a small group of ISA soldiers struggling to survive after being effectively cut off and left on the hostile Helghan homeworld. Throughout it all, you play as Sev, the returning hero from the second game, who is out to do as much damage to the enemy as he can before he's caught, killed or rescued.Killzone 3 succeeds as a superb first-person shooter. Guerilla has once again proven that they know how to make the most visceral feeling first-person combat on the market. The controls are considerably tighter than they were in two, but I love how everything you do in Killzone 3 still feels like there's momentum behind it. From climbing ladders to running to slamming into cover, Killzone 3 makes you feel like your character is grounded in the world around him. Even shooting feels more real thanks to the weight and swing of the weapon – but not at the cost of overly floaty controls.
Killzone 3 also does a nice job at breaking up the levels between sections where you're on foot, and where you're kicking ass in a super powered vehicle. While the entire game is very linear, Guerilla's done a great job at varying what you're doing just enough from moment to moment to keep you from seeing behind the curtain too much. Each skirmish is so intense, and so visually satisfying, that I'm often too engrossed to think about the story or how I'm being funneled in a very specific direction.
Killzone 3 is the PS3’s answer to Halo, at least this is what the critics and fanboys want gamers to believe. For others like myself, who really haven’t played any of the previous games in the series, Killzone 3 looks and feels like just another generic FPS; surprisingly it’s much, much more.
One of the big things that surprised me was that this game looks really good! Whether it’s during the cut screens, the character models or even the diverse environments, everything looked gorgeous and polished. As a matter of fact, I would have to say: this is one of the best looking FPS games on the market. Sorry Black Ops, Killzone 3 just looks better.
For once in an FPS I found the story to be interesting. There are a few twists and the characters are quirky, in a sense it reminded me of Half-Life. The single player game runs around 6-8 hours, which was an entertaining adventure with some variety. This included stealth elements and on-rails shooting sequences from a variety of vehicles. Space combat in one section of the game was also a welcome change. The AI is marginally helpful and serves as either a distraction for the enemies or as source of life support, with the idea that it’s there to keep the player alive. This is a great concept that unfortunately only works right about half the time. The jetpack is a fantastic tool in the game and is 10 times more fun than when I first played at PAX. I honestly think that every level could use a jetpack.
The multiplayer is where the game shines, although there have been some server and network issues. Most of this is related to getting large number of people into squads or having the game randomly disconnect. They're even having a problem where the game causes the players PS3 to completely lock-up, forcing a hard restart of their system! Knowing Sony, there will be a large patch coming in the near future. The class system in multiplayer works well and there’s enough variety in the game modes to keep things fresh. The jetpacks and mechs add vertical elements to some of the maps as well. Guerrilla Warfare does a nice job of mixing the game modes up over several rounds so nothing becomes too stale.
The big question that I'm posing is: should gamers rush out and buy it? Well as someone that wasn't previously a fan, I’d say there is nothing to lose by getting Killzone 3 ASAP. Although, if you loved the other two games, chances are you preordered Killzone 3 and skipped work to pick it up anyways. It’s a fun game and from the sounds of it there is going to be a strong multiplayer community for several months. That's another reason to justify buying the game. You'll be getting your money’s worth out of this one.
I was really hyped about KZ3 after playing KZ2 for over a year. Unfortunately this game was more like Killzone 1.5 rather than the third installment in the franchise. It has many fewer options than Killzone 2: no custom games, no campaign stats kept in game and a host of other options are missing. The squad system is a giant step backwards and the clan system is a shell of the system in KZ2.
The game play in KZ3 is much less challenging and the maps are not as good as they were in KZ2. Operations is by far the best part of the game but the developers only put Operations on 3 maps. Along with the fact that not all maps even have the Warzone option, but are strictly Guerrilla Warfare only. (team deathmatch) Which makes for a paltry amount of maps for such a major release. Plus, Sony had DLC maps for sale before the game was even playable online. Seemed quite the money grab considering the massive amount of network errors, disconnects, lobbies that refused to launch.
Warzone, the classic mode of Killzone has been ruined by an extremely over powered "Marksman" class that has a one hit kill weapon, plus a silenced automatic rifle, plus a machine pistol, plus radar jamming, and permanent cloak that remains if the Marksman kills with the silenced automatic rifle. Thus reducing Warzone to a perpetual camp fest. The substitution of Tactical Spawn Points rather than the spawn grenade has further increased the camping as the TSP's are static and everyone knows exactly where they are at all times. Players simply surround the TSP's and either kill everyone that tries to use them. In effect, forcing the other team to be confined to their base where they are base raped until the game ends. A rather dull and boring conclusion for both teams.
In Guerrilla Warfare, the Marksman has completely taken over all of the games as no one even bothers to play a different class. Which is also extremely boring as everyone simply finds a dark corner and waits for someone to get bored enough to try and move somewhere. It is the definition of camping and it incredibly unsatisfying.
On a positive note, the graphics are amazing and the Single player has some fun bits. The cinematic cut scenes are probably the best I have ever seen. However, SP Campaign only took me 6.5 hours to complete which makes it one of the shortest Single Player games I've ever played. There are several new weapons and the unlock system allows players to more quickly rank up the class they prefer to play. And Operations almost saves the game it's so good. But, with only 3 maps in the rotation, it too becomes stale rather quickly.
It really looks like Sony only pushed this game for release as a tool to sell the "Move" system and to promote the 3D aspect for TV sales. The game falls woefully short in original ideas, well designed maps, and game play. It feels like most all other current shooters on the market and that is not a selling point for me.
All in all, this is a rental, or purchase a used game at a discount price.
picking up from where Killzone 2 left off, u r faced with the daunting task of trying to survive the relentless Helghast hunt for you and your fellow ISA who have been hiding out on Helghan for six months trying to find a way off the planet (after the ill-fated demise of that psycho Visari and his nuking his own capital city - don't fault Rico for pulling the trigger on the looney, i would have done the same). super realistic environmental graphics present expansive vistas that are like virtual mind candy, and a multitude of environments and tactical situations will keep u in awe and challenged as you fight to survive the Helghan onslaught and complete your objectives (as well as keep Rico from catching too many bullets and dying on u). incredible technology abounds, along with the return of your favorite weapons like the bolt gun and some new toys as well. lots of ammo caches, and more mechanized vehicles with impressive firepower also are crowd pleasers in this edition of the popular franchise. compelling cinematics keep storyline moving right along and are classics in themselves. as a diehard FPS, i enjoyed KZ3 immensely, highly recommend it, and can't wait for KZ4...
