| The Kenwood KDC-X996 in-dash receiver is a security-enabled flip-face stereo receiver designed for use in vehicles. The multipurpose Kenwood unit is a CD/MP3 in-dash receiver that combines disc-based media, digital media, and radio frequency playback options. The Kenwood in-dash receiver holds a disc drive for playing disc-based media such as music CDs as well as an AM/FM tuner for receiving radio transmissions. It also includes an iPod USB 1Wire connection for digital file playback via an iPod or other compatible MP3-enabled devices. The Kenwood KDC-X996 in-dash receiver can be connected to all three sources at any given point to provide a diverse listening experience. The tuner frequency for this unit is 87.9 MHz up to 107.9 MHz with a frequency step of 200 kHz and a frequency response of 30 Hz to 15 kHz. The disc-based playback in the CD/MP3 in-dash receiver uses a Digital Filter(D/A) with 8 times Oversampling, a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, and a dynamic range of 93 dB. Disc-based sources should be compliant with MPEG-1/2 Audio Layer-3, Windows Media audio, or AAC-LC ".m4a" files. The Kenwood in-dash receiver is FAT16/32-compatible for digital media with decoding for MP3, WMA, and AAC files. Incredible sound and good features. The "pro setup" options let you tailor the stereo to your car. I used the pre-outs and a separate amp, so I don't know about the amp section, but the pre-outs give top quality sound. The hands free Bluetooth (phone) works very well, as does USB streaming.
The two cons are minor, but worth mentioning. First, the presets are clumsy to get to, especially while you're driving. Second, the stereo has an annoyingly long delay when responding to button presses or settings changes. These hold the unit back from getting the full 5 stars.
The pros outweigh the cons by a wide margin, though.
The display is awesome. There are a lot of different options to configure everything (pro audio setup, display, colors, etc, etc.)
The EQ is just great.The sound is flawless.
I guess the only disadvantage is that this unit is just a bit slow to access to MP3 songs compare to a PIONEER
Well for the first week this headunit was by far the best I have ever had. Then, about 2 weeks later, the head unit started acting up and does not work properly. It has a adjustable equalizer that you can either go through it or bypass but there is no sound in the through possition. It still works but now I cannot set the equalizer up how I want.
