Solid performer with good feature set at a very godd price.

Let me start by saying this: I've installed many hundreds of car stereo systems over the years. I've been around the block a few times now. The KENWOOD unit met al the expectations that i expect from Kenwood. The unit was perfect right out of the box. Everything I needed was already there. The featureset was solid for the price. The 'feel' of the unit as better than I expected for the money. Knobs were secure and did not wiggle. Buttons have a nice, crisp on-off feel that I can sense while driving. The display is simple, clear and easy to understand. Power is adequate to drive 4 speakers, 6" coaxials to a listening level adequate for an adult. The USB input is a great touch. Daylight viewing is decent, not great. CD playbeack has been excellent, not a skip in a 'busy' car, sound quality is clear and void of backround noises. AM reception is good, but tone quality is poor. But for a quick traffic report, I live with it. FM reception is better than expected. The unit is able to differentiate 2 stations close by on the band in spite of one being very strong. Locally we have a station that overpowers several others, and a poor receiver can't find the weaker station(s). Not a problem here. FM range, however, is a bit short, so holding a station for the extreme range is not a strength.

My complaints: the large knob serves multiple functions, including a pushbutton. It is not very intuitive, and I usually find myself going though the option several times. Once I get my settings, you must save them to memory or go through the procedure again. The tiny button near the CD slot gets lost. The rocker button across the bottom is easily mis-touched. So ergonomically, not the best, not the worst, but I think the range of adjustments available compensates to some degree. It has a lot of adjustabilty for the dollar.

Overall, it's a well-rounded, flexible and solid performer for not a whole lot of money. It scores high in value, Very good in performance, good but not great in ergonomics and in price, amazing. I give it a solid 1 1/2 thumbs up.

Great Stereo!! Hookup no problem, Love the usb for music from my PC. CD player works fine. Reception from the FM radio is better than my past Panasonic and Sony in dash receivers.
Highly recommend this as a little cheaper choice. Also sound is great quality.

so far great simple unit

so far this unit has been great...i really like to usb/port cover that other radios didnt have...really easy to use...lots of customizing choices with this unit...maybe too many...lol
my first ken wood radio/cd unit....so far more reliable than my last two sonys...

works great.
