Most was based on fact.
Some was an educated guess.
All was a legend.
Never will the story of the American icon be told more fluently, more sympathetically, more realistically. James Franco IS the James Dean of our time. Not only is he hauntingly similar in looks, but in his acting. Both transform into their role, a rare thing to see. James Franco stops being an aviator, he stops being Peter Parker's best friend, he stops being a modern day Hollywood celebrity; and takes on the identity of one of the most famous actor's of all time.
He becomes a building block in a movie that seems too large for a television movie. Though I can not vogue for the historically accurate factor as well as others, I can say this movie will give those who are unfamiliar with James Dean a new interest, and those who grew up with his movies a renewed love. Each character has been well built, each word well written, and each reenactment well carried. The build of Dean is unbelievably captivating, and the fall is equally poignant (though a little rushed). This movie is a must see for any fan of James Dean; the only way it could be better is if it were longer.
One of my all time favorite actors is, and always will be James Dean.
I am fascinated by his work and the tragic life and death he incurred. This movie depicted the constant need and want for his fathers acception perfectly, the execution of Franco's performance of Dean blew me away, it's actually what established me as a fan of his prior to his other movies (Spiderman, Pineapple Express, Milk) The Biographical events from his time in Indiana to California to New York were correct along with putting in some of James' quirky humor of his mannerisms he possessed while alive
Overall it was a great movie, very happy to have my own copy to show my friends, family and one day children to explain one of the past centuries finest actors.
I am a huge James Dean fan. I have all of his movies, several books, framed pictures, and keep getting more things I find about him. I love James Franco also so I was really looking forward to seeing this movie. Having read what I've read about James Dean's life so far I was a bit disappointed that this movie did not show more of the tragedies that James Dean endured. James Franco did a wonderful job of playing him, but there was so much sadness that James Dean experienced that was left out. I got some other James Dean DVD's coming about his life and I'm hoping they will be more in line with the biographies I have of him. It's worth the watch if you like James Dean, but like I said, it was missing alot of his emotional tragedies that I truly wanted to see on the screen, not just in his books. Thanks for reading my thoughts about this movie.
James Franco did an awesome job and the film itself was a great depiction of the brief life of James Dean. Loved it!
