Product Information
Sony's fourth Jak and Dexter game, JAK X: COMBAT RACING for the PS2, takes the series away from its action/adventure roots and into the world of combat racing. As the name implies, this isn't a normal racing game; players will have to watch out for environmental hazards like lava and boulders while guarding against homing missiles, attack drones, and other weapons unleashed by the other racers. The story of JAK X weaves together several different plots that began in the previous games. Krew, a villain from JAK II, is dead, and Jak and Dexter are asked to attend the reading of his will along with Sig, Ashelin, Krew's daughter Rayn, and others. One of Krew's requests is that everyone drink a toast in his honor; however, the wine is poisoned The rest of Krew's instructions are then revealed: if any of the characters can win the Kras City Grand Championship in his name, they will be given the antidote. With no choice in the matter, the group enters the race, but soon, each is vying to win no matter what. The game features four different cups consisting of 20 challenges each, plus a large number of unlockable extras like more tracks, car upgrades, new racers, and more. Different weapons and abilities are available on each track, allowing players to fire lasers and create oil slicks to stop their opponents. JAK X: COMBAT RACING will keep players on their toes as they attempt to win the race and the antidote.

Next Generation Racing

We've all experienced bad games, and I had had my doubts against this one, but this was not any typical racing game. With many ties into the story line of the other Jak games, and even some secrets from other Naughty Dog productions, this game defied the "I bet my car can turn left faster than your car" mentality of the average racing game. Featuring everything from arena death matchs, timed rallies, to high-stakes cup races - this is a game with a lot of action crammed in every turn. The game features many vehicles which can be unlocked along the way, and a variety of different ways to customize them, but if there is any real perk of owning this game, it would have to be the amazingly awesome multiplayer. Go head to head against your friends in any style of race, match, or ralley you preffer while using virtually every character from the Jak series (who knows, save up some points and you may even see other Naughty Dog characters drop into the cast list).

Fun 3D shoot-em-up game, with lots of options!

I bought this game for 2 reasons. We (as in my whole family) love the Jack and Dax series of games and my boys (and I am including my hubby in (my boys):P) love racing games. Well, I ended up loving it too. You can choose to play the way the game is progamed to run which still gives you options onces you start wining races. In regular mode you can buy upgrades for your car, even before you start winning certain upgrades, like paint, are free. Also in regular mode you can buy enough ugrades to get your car to the point that its almost untouchable if you use the credit right.;) There is another mode where you have more options. Like which character to use as driver, which track to drive on, what weaponds will be available, and one or two players? These are just some of the choises you are given. The only thing I don't like ablut this game is that it takes up a lot of room on a memory card. So if you have two big games like say this game and Dark Cloud or one of the lego games. You can't save them both on the same memory card. You have to have a different memory card for each memory eating game.

Jak and Daxter behind the wheel

This is one fun and funny game to play. You have cars that you get from preset and can get more when you progress through the game. The customization of the cars you do have make for some pretty wild rides. The cast is about the same with some game exclusive characters. The voices and story play are all great and have some great tracks/players too. The vehicle upgrades are standard upgrades to the vehicles armor, speed, and acceleration. The weapons are intuitive for this caliber type game and make quite a selection. You can go from rockets to machine guns to grenades to 1st place killer orbs. That is only the little bit of weapons available for the front. The back you can get killer gas to mines to pop up mines to oil slicks. Then they go ever more dangerous when your dark ego is all full causing even more damage. The racing is good and a little identical to Burnout but with weapons. You have modes from time trial to drone deathmatch to deathmatch to artifact pick up. This is a solid game that delivers a solid punch to racing games.

Jak X: Combat Racing

Good graphics, great speed, radar is easy, weapons selection is easy, and you can buld up your car and make it tougher as you go and score more "orbs". My son had his car all tricked out - he had everything available. I didn't have anything - I got whupped.... But, it did take a couple of weeks for him to get that ONE car completed, and there are many more cars, characters, and tracks. There are ice tracks, dirt tracks, different games you can play on those tracks, tunnels where you can do a barrel roll accros the ceiling and drive upside down if your boosters are firing. Fun game - jumps, speed, weapons, time limits - it has it all.

Better than Twisted Metal!!!

Jak X takes a note from the Crash series and hits the highway in a great racing game from Naughty Dog. The game is strictly racing so even Jak fans may want to Rent before Buying. I like this game better than any other combat racer out there but it does not have anything on "Mario Kart:Double Dash". As far as the PS2 goes it is one of the best on the system so this will probably be a must have if you are limited to the PS2. The story still has some funny Daxter humor. Gameplay and graphics have the same feel as Jak 3 without the on-foot(so sad). Multiplayer is included this time around though with online or split-screen modes so there is plenty of replay ability. This one is worth a pick-up but probably just a rental for most. Great job Naughty Dog. 4/5
