Relatively intelligent autofocus system; compact.
Poor video quality; no optical image stabilization.
"The four sibling models--the JVC Everio GZ-HM300, HM320, HM340, and HD500--deliver subpar video for even their dirt-cheap prices."

This is a sleek camcorder and works well as i had expected. There are some
cons as well. The lens cover, we already lost ours during an international trip.
JVC should have integrated it inside the camcorder. The HD video capture in the
highest resolution needs a software converter to create a DVD. The DVD created
using the software bundled with the camcorder resulted in jittery video and
audio that lagged behind. Moreover, one needs to plug the camcorder to the
power adapter and then connect the USB cable, run the JVC software to download
the video clips. This is annoying, but it works. I guess overtime, as new
operating systems come out, this can become a real problem with upgrades and the
JVC software support lagging behing for that operating system. Low light
performance is not good. But this was not a setback. We shot some night time
video of stage performance and love the quality. On windows7, the HD video playback using the bundled software results in lockup of the computer. I use
a Lenovo W510 quad core with a solid state hard drive, top of the line stuff.
The menu system is a bit annoying with needing to scroll the finger through
the touch screen to navigate menus. Why did JVC not keep it the same as their
non HD models is a mystery. It works, but i worry about the durability and the
sensitivity of the touch screen over the years.
In closing, i would not be deterred by the above shortcomings, since it is a
nice sleek camcorder for the price i paid on ebay ($160). Capture video in
HD, burn it in a blu-ray disk and archive it for storage of your memories. If
you want to burn it to a DVD, get a software that does down conversion and
still archive the HD video to future proof your memories. The stock battery
lasts quite a while. I would still get a spare battery along with a separate
charger for the battery. These chargers are quite cheap at $20 shipped.
I purchased this mainly for online review videos and videos of my kids. Now this isn't the best camera out there, but for HD this one isn't bad. The basic Ease of use is some simplistic and intuitive it's GREAT! Menu Setup is a little jumbled in my opinion. You get about an hour recording time on average depending on the quality you choose. But I am happy what I got. I wanted a small Digital Camcorder with no Tapes I could take with me that was good quality. And I got exactly what I wanted.
very good camcorder, price is good
very easy screen touch
sync very wellwith computer
quality is good for that price that i've paid
A gift to son and wife for new Baby's arrival. Greta little unit. Plug n play compaitble with their Flat Screen also!! Really nice, especially for the price I got
out door video quality is very good.if you have poor indoor lighting , you may not get good quality video.
