Movie synopsis
"J. Edgar" is an intriguing biopic that delves into the life and career of one the most powerful law enforcers in the history of the United States. Released as a two-disc set in February 2012, the drama features Leonardo DiCaprio depicting J. Edgar Hoover as he re-tells his life story for his memoirs. Academy-award winner Clint Eastwood masterfully directs this compelling portrait of a complicated and conflicted FBI chief. Some of the key events the movie exhibits are Hoover's campaign against communists, his role in capturing the kidnapper of Charles Lindbergh's baby, the "confidential" files that he kept on his foes, and the conflict he had with Martin Luther King Jr. The drama also stars Armie Hammer, who plays Hoover's life-long friend, Clyde Tolson, and Judi Dench, who portrays Hoover's domineering mother. The two-disc set also includes an extra special feature titled "J. Edgar: the most Powerful Man in the world." The DVD set also conveniently provides a digital ultraviolet copy. "J. Edgar" gives viewers the chance at witnessing such an engaging and powerful film based on the secret life of an influential man.

Hollywood Reporter - Todd McCarthy (11/03/2011)

"Anchored by a forceful, vulnerable Leonardo DiCaprio....It portrays a 20th-century titan who, with secrets and bullets, a will to power and the self-promotional skills of a true star, built a citadel of information in which he burrowed deep."

GOOD FOR HOME VIEWERS, KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN...

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

WHO WOULD HAVE KNOWN THE COMPLEX IDIOSYNCRASIES OF J.EDGAR HOOVER?
GREAT ACTING FOR THE PLOT. WITH OUT KNOWING ALL ABOUT HOOVER I WILL HAVE TO READ UP ON HIM AS TIME ALOWS, AND I REALLY WONDER IF I WANT TO KNOW OF HIS UNSAVORY LIFE STYLES.
BUT TO ROUND THIS OUT? ITS WORTH A LOOK SEE INTO THE BEGININGS OF OUR F.B.I.
I CAN UNDERSTAND HOW MANY OF HIS BEST AGENTS FELT AT THE TIME OF THIER ARRESTS OF HIGH PROFILE CRIMINALS AND HOOVER TAKING THE CREDIT, THE ADAGE OF, " I CAN MAKE A FOOL LOOK LIKE A GENIUS AT MY OWN EXPENCE" RINGS TRUE IN THIS CASE. A GOOD FLIC FOR THOSE WHO WOULD SEE THE DARK SIDE OF MAN.

a great movie to watch

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

this film begins with an aging hoover (leo dicaprio) dictating his memoirs with the goal of telling "his side of the story." the film then takes viewers through hoover's lengthy career as director of the federal bureau of investigations, painting a portrait that is alternately positive and damning. arguably, this is the fairest way to portray a man of hoover's controversial status. today he is viewed as someone who promoted significant advances in law enforcement, but also overstepped the bounds of his authority, particularly when it came to the red scare of the 1940's and 50's. clint eastwood did a very good job with this movie. also leo dicaprio look just like j edgar hoover in his later years. this is a great movie to pick up and watch.

A fascinating movie, well worth the money to see it.

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I bought this movie based on DiCaprio's acting reputation and awards for his acting as well as the fascinating character of J. Edgar Hoover. Of course it was a great mix and well worth the money to see it. Any flaws in the movie? Well, its odd watching the parts where J. Edgar is dealing with his sexuality. But, apparently that is the key to his character and has to be explored. DiCaprio is great in this role and it is well worth seeing a fascinating actor playing a fascinating J. Edgar.

A spoon-fed dry history lesson = DiCaprio was excellent, but film was dull.

No, I would not recommend this product.
Review For: J. Edgar (Blu-ray Disc, 2012, 2-Disc Set, Includes Digital Copy; UltraViolet)

This film, while well acted by all the stars, felt more like a spoon-fed dry history lesson that box-office entertainment.

It's not that the scenes weren't interesting to look at, it was all just talk, talk, talk. And not really interesting.

The film was dull as paste. And eating paste might have been more lively.

The film just missed for me. And I couldn't have been more happy when it was finally over.

Leave bio-pics for TV entertainment, mini-series, rather than fictionalizing very dull events.

You can skip it in my book. But if you love DiCaprio.. you've got to see it. Bring a pillow, or a gun in case you want an easy way out.

Cheers and Blessings, Max Rainet.
