Robert Downey Jr. returns as Tony Stark in this sequel to the blockbuster Iron Man. This movie takes up right at the end of the first film with Stark announcing he is Iron Man and goes on from there. The plot revolves around the technology of the Iron Man suit and who should own or control the technology. The government wants it, foreign governments want it and so do all the other defense contractors, the chief being Hammer Industries headed by Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell).
As the movie begins we find out that Tony Starks father had a partner in the design of the Arc Reactor, Anton Vanko (Yevgeni Lazarev). As Anton dies his son Ivan (Mickey Rourke) sets out to get even with Tony Stark for his father destroying his family.
This is a great movie and a great sequel. Most of the characters are the same with the exception of Don Cheadle replaces Terrence Howard as Air Force Lieutenant Colonel James Rhodes
Starring in this movie are: Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man, Don Cheadle as Lt. Colonel James "Rhodey" Rhodes, Mickey Rourke as Ivan Vanko, Gwyneth Paltrow as Virginia "Pepper" Potts, Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer, Scarlett Johansson as Natalie Rushman / Natasha Romanoff, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan (Tony Stark's bodyguard and chauffeur), John Slattery as Howard Stark, Garry Shandling as United States Senator Stern, Clark Gregg as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson, Leslie Bibb as reporter Christine Everhart and Paul Bettany as the voice Stark's computer, JARVIS.
Also appearing are: Comic Book Legend Stan Lee appears as himself but is mistaken for Larry King. News anchor Christiane Amanpour and political commentator Bill O'Reilly as themselves.
I recommend this movie to anyone who loves a great action movie and especially to Marvel Comic Lovers.
NOTE: Be sure you watch after the end titles for a 30 second continuation to the movie and a lead in to a possible Iron Man III movie?
While Iron Man 2 may not be perfect, it is a very solid and fun sequel. Improvements include better action sequences and some great characters added to the franchise. Unfortunately there is a lot going on here and even though it isn't hard to follow, there isn't enough time to give each sub plot the proper screen time it deserves. Oddly enough for a super hero film, I think they could have edited some of the talky scenes down and added a little more Iron Man action.
A good example of this is when we meet Natasha Romanova she isn't given much to do and I found myself wondering if she was going to be The Black Widow on screen. She is only in one action sequence(a great one with one of the funniest moments in the film)late in the movie and she and Nick Fury are really only there to set up The Avengers movie. I'm not saying it should be edited out, but there is only so much ground you can cover in two hours. Whiplash is played with gusto by Mickey Rourke, but he doesn't have much screen time either and that seems to be the problem with this film, no one but Tony Stark gets enough screen time.
After the first encounter with Whiplash in Monaco on the race track, we don't really get a good dose of Iron man until the final battle, which means there is over an hour of time where there isn't that much action. Considering what I had read about this being an action packed film, I found it to be very talky. This isn't necessarily a bad thing because the characters are well developed and the actors are all really good here.
The final battle is very good with some very cool Iron Man destruction and some nifty moves, but it's surprising and anti-climatic when Whiplash is defeated very quickly. In the first film, I thought the final battle was too long and in this one, it just seems to end too abruptly. I'm not bashing this film in any way as it is a very fun film that I will most certainly own the DVD/Blu Ray when it is released, but I think the story may have been a little too ambitious for one film.
Overall I give Iron Man 2 a solid B(4 stars)and I think Favreau did a very good job all things considered. Of course if you are seeing this in a theater, then stick around until the end of the credits role for a little teaser scene about another Marvel Hero who will be hitting theaters next year.
the sequel to the iron man movie. a very awesome movie. a must buy if your an iron man fan. even if your not a fan you should still buy and watch the dvd because it is extremely awesome. they even bring the new iron man war machine into the movie. Tony even creates a new iron man suit the mark 5 i believe. Just buy the movie, you wont regret you did. it is also funny throughout the movie. action and a little bit of comedy packed into one movie. one word...awesome!!!
The second installment of the Iron Man series. It has elements that are really interesting. The special effects are really great. I was disappointed that they changed out his best friend for this movie. Not that I have anything against Don Cheedle. It was more that they threw a monkey wrench into the mix and I didn't appreciate it. Mickey Roark did make a good bad guy, although the story line was a little weak in this area. All in all it was a pretty entertaining movie.
The audio & PC was good in bluray. This movie is a good forward from the original Iron Man. New characters and sub plots make it intertaining. Plenty of Stark in the "suite" Mickey Rourk plays a weird creepy character. I enjoyed it. Worth a buy.
