|Whether performing video editing, playing graphic intensive games or running multiple background tasks simultaneously, users today have high expectations for their PC performance with little tolerance for degradation in experience. For people who run multiple demanding applications simultaneously, the Intel Pentium D processor is Intel's preferred desktop processor. Because it is powered by two execution cores in one processor it offers exceptional functionality and performance so consumers get the most productivity and enjoyment from their PCs when one or more people are running multiple applications at the same time. In today's usage environment, processor speed alone is not enough to ensure a great experience. Today users require the power of simultaneous computing found in a dual core processor. An Intel dual-core processor delivers consumer value by providing additional computing resources that expand the PC's capabilities and provide platform-level advancements for consumers in the form of higher throughput and simultaneous computing. With an Intel Pentium D processor users may perform multiple tasks such as digital rendering and gaming all while running virus scan or other background tasks seamlessly.|

Indeed, this is an old processor and you can definitely buy a better one. However, for this much money, you get a processor with 4MB cache - each core has 2 MB. This processor is performance oriented but its best advantage is that it is way cheaper than the Core 2 Duo equivalents.
replaced old 6300 core 2 duo 1.86GHz with this Pentium d dual core and wow what a difference in performance. very fast, everything loads fast even the web pages. plays bc2 on med. to high graphics. add more memory and it will run even better
This is a very nice dual core processor, with an 800 mhz fsb, Fully capable of handling any processing applications, Including the latest games.
Had an older Celeron that always seemed to running at >80% with the fan going full bore even with just the occasional internet surfing and some accounting work. I wasn't ready to replace the computer just yet, so I picked this up instead. If your motherboard doesn't support Core 2 processors, then this is a great upgrade to breathe new life into that old PC.
Old slow 1.8 single. Newer Pentium D, 2 single-core dies packaged in a multi-chip module. First generation of 2 internal in 1 external package. Not core 2 duo. p4 is available up to 3.4 hot single core. I chose newer cooler multi core. Core 2 duo will not run in this board. All 3 chips are lga 775. Speed increase is very noticeable. Faster ghz cpu is available but cost prohibitive late 2012. Might be 64 bit. Pleased with pentium d 925 3 ghz.
