I purchased the drill because Ingersoll rand makes the only battery powered die grinders I have been able to find. And those are only available in 14.4v. The drill has ample torque for drilling aluminum, and stainless steels to at least 1/4 inch hole size. I am an aircraft mechanic, so no experience with wood. I replaced a Makita 18v Li-ion with this drill and it performs as well as the Makita. Though the battery life is shorter. I guess that's to be expected with the lower voltage. Battery life is its only shortfall in my opinion.
