I bought the T41 to replace an aging Gobook IX250.
I got it on ebay for about 65$ ($75 with shipping)
It cost about 56$ to get a nice brand new extended 6 hour battery for it and about 23$ to up it from 512MB of ram to 1.5GB of ram (2GB is the max)
As a Linux laptop a 1.6Ghz Thinkpad T41 works great. it's more than fast enough to view videos and run virtualbox, its fairly rugged and is pretty much supported out of the box by just about every Linux distro out there (I prefer Debian myself) I use it as a portable worksation, and as an extra machine to use along side my desktop.
Be careful to not hold this machine by the front left or right corners because you can flex the motherboard and cause the GPU to fail. as long as its handled correctly it should provide many years of faithful service.
go to www.thinkwiki.org if you have any problems its a great resource for thinkpad owners.

The lap came without HD and I had to switch out the keyboard, finger pad with the ones from non-functional T43. After that, like new.
