Publisher's Note
This paperbound edition of the standard introduction to Hopi jewelry is identified as a revised edition (but it's not clear whether it's a reprint). The first edition was published in 1982, and several new editions have appeared over the years. Here, Wright's history and discussion of styles and workmanship is accompanied by a catalog identifying hallmarks of artists who began work as late as 1996, and including identification of artists who began working as early as 1890 (many of whom didn't use hallmarks). One of the top reference books 4 Hopi Silver& Hallmarks

Hopi Silver by Margaret N Wright is one of the best research and education tools you can use to learn about purchasing Native American Jewelry. The photos are detailed, highly accurate and provide a fairly nice spectrum of the work that is available. The hallmarks are useful when buying an older piece from dead pawn or auctions. The book speaks of the rampant fraud that is occuring in many areas today. Educating oneself is the best way to avoid paying for a cheap imitation. Read this cover to cover and keep it handy.

Essential reference book for Hopi jewelry lovers

This is an excellent reference book for those collecting Hopi Indian jewelry. I buy and sell Native American jewelry and this book has been an invaluable resource for learning about the history of Hopi silversmithing. There is also a very complete reference section on Hopi artists and their hallmarks, listed in both chronological order and by type of hallmark (i.e. animals, clouds, sun, plants). Often when I find a piece of Hopi jewelry, I am able to determine the artist with the help of this book. I highly recommend this book to all Hopi jewelry buyers!

Hopi Silver

I collect Hopi silver Indian jewelry and this book is an excellent reference
to the craft. It shows many examples of jewelry and also lists prominant
Hopi silversmiths, many of whom I have had dealings with. This is probably what I like the most about this book. It's nice to have the artisans listed and to be able to see pictures of some of their work. It's a beautiful and very informative little book and one that I am enjoying very much. There is
nothing that I dislike about this book.
