Anyone who loves movies about animals, adventure movies, or just a good story will love this movie. Homeward Bound follows Shadow (Golden Retriever), Chance (American Bulldog), and Sassy (Himalayan cat) as they travel through the wilderness in an attempt to reunite with their human family after being left with a family friend while their owners went on a trip. This journey is fraught with various dangers, including a cougar, porcupine, and a waterfall, but the perseverance and steadfastness (as well as friendship and loyalty) shown by these animals in the face of everything before them as they desperately try to reunite with their family is inspiring and moving at the same time.
As you may have guessed, Homeward Bound stars its animal actors far more prominently than its human ones; although, that does not make them more difficult to relate to. The voice-over work from the cast is top notch, with Michael J. Fox as Chance, Sally Field as Sassy, and Don Ameche as the wise Shadow. Through their voices, you'll hear the animals' thoughts and relate to them in a way that will make you forget that these are animals on screen and not people.
Homeward Bound is a terrific movie and one well worth owning in order to share with children or just to reminisce about the first time you saw the movie yourself.
This is a great family movie about 2 dogs and a cat who get lost and find their way home. We watch it every Thanksgiving as a tradition! Good comedy, good lessons, and lots of entertainment. The voices of Michael J. Fox, Sally Fields and Don Ameche are perfect for the characters. Great for children and animal lovers. Anyone with half a heart will love this movie!
I had the VHS version of this movie in my library already. The reason I purchased it in DVD is because my mother-in-law doesn't have a VHS unit in the den, where she spends most of her time these days. I put it in to play right when it arrived, and then got called away from Mom with a phone call. When she was finished viewing it, I asked, "so how did you like it?" She replied, "I saw it previously, but it is still a cute movie." Personally, I like these human voice-over movies. What did I dislike about this movie? Nothing. How does it compare to others? It's a Disney movie and, if you keep this comparison with other Disney movies, it's par. The actors/actresses in this screenplay were great. Having Michael J. Fox, Dom Ameche, and Sally Fields as the voices of the trio was perfect. Even the people cast in peoples' roles were great. I just wish the animals could have understood what the people were telling them, and not just react to the emotions of the moment. For example, when the oldest of the children was saying goodbye to the Golden Retriever, I wish the dog could have responded to what the boy was saying. But, if they did, there might not have been this movie at all. The animals would have understood that the people were coming back, eventually.
HI:
Bought it for my Son as he likes adventure movies and this, beings he has three dogs, was about lost pets and they find their way home after a very long trip, but, not without obsticales and battles of nature and they arrive home to be welcomed by their owners. Very touching movie.

A heart warming story from an animals perspective but meant to teach us humans about love and learning to trust others. It has action and adventure, very funny lines. You can almost believe that is what the animals are really thinking and if they could talk that would be what they would say. The visual shots of the country side are breath taking. All in all this was a very pleasing family movie. It made my girl friend cry.
