Movie synopsis
Despite a historically and morally questionable premise, the 1960s sitcom HOGAN'S HEROES was wildly popular during its premiere run and continues to remain one of the most classic (not to mention utterly unique) comedy series in television history. Set in a Nazi prison camp during World War II, the series follows a group of Allied POWs--Englishman Peter Newkirk (a pre-FAMILY FEUD Richard Dawson), Frenchman Louis LeBeau (Robert Clary), and Americans Andrew Carter (Larry Hovis) and James Kinchloe (Ivan Dixon, one of the first African-American actors to get equal billing)--led by the irrepressible Colonel Robert Hogan (Bob Crane) in their hilarious attempts to sabotage the Nazi war effort. Though often mischaracterized as a tasteless gloss on the real-life horrors of Nazi Germany (the series was set in a prisoner-of-war camp, rather than concentration camp), HOGAN'S HEROES was intended as parody and certainly pulled no punches in its unflattering depiction of idiotic Nazi officers such as the pompous Colonel Klink (Werner Klemperer), bumbling Sergeant Schultz (John Banner), and irascible General Burkhalter (Leon Askin)--in fact, Klemperer, Banner, and Askin were all Jewish, and Clary was a Holocaust survivor. This collection presents all 26 episodes of the controversial series' fifth season.

Hogans Heroes

In my honest opinion, a classic TV series that portrays the zany characters in a German POW camp during the World War- but with a twist- the prisoners run the place! it was never a dull episode, plot after plot, and just plain old fun. I honestly can't find faults about this series, and It brought back memories of TV in the early years

Just as good as the first 4 seasons

Good clean entertainment. A gift for my husband who loved the first 4 seasons and couldn't wait to watch this season 5. He has been enjoying it as much as the first 4 seasons.

Worth the money to spend cold winter evenings being entertained by something other than current filth on tv.

Recommend if you're a Hogan's Heroes fan.

As Time Went On....

As Time Went On.... This Show didn't get old!

Unlike many TV series, this show didn't just drag on and on each week or each season.

Each show was fresh, even tho the characters usually remained the same.

Good thing I like the main characters!

Recommended viewing for at least once, probably more of a rental than a purchase for all these seasons, UNLESS you are a Hogan's Heroes completist!

Best season of Hogan's Heroes

I am a huge Hogan's Heroes fan. I thought that I had seen most, if not all of the episodes. This season had several that I had not yet seen. There seems to be more plot and more comedy on this season. I'm very glad that I purchase this item.

THE ELITE FEW!

HOGAN'S HEROES RATES AMOUNG THE "ELITE" IN SITCOM TELEVISION VIEWING IN THAT IT WAS A WELL-CONCEIVED, WELL WRITTEN AND EXECUTED SERIES. OTHER SERIES THAT RATE IN THE "ELITE" CLUB WOULD INCLUDE: MCHALES NAVY, HARDCASTLE AND MCCORMICK, AND STAR TREK - TOS. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE STAR TREK - TOS, THESE OTHER PROGRAMS WERE WELL EXECUTED SHOWS BY SEASONED VETERANS OF ACTING WHO KNEW GOOD MATERIAL AND WERE PROFESSIONALS IN THEIR PERFORMANCES. HOPEFULLY, SOMEWHERE IN THE FUTURE, OTHER SHOWS THAT ARE ENTERTAINING CAN BE PRODUCED AND SHOWN BUT UNTIL THAT TIME COMES, WE MUST RELY ON THE "OLDIES - BUT GOODIES".
