Movie synopsis
Music video director Dave Meyers's debut film is an updated version of the 1986 shocker of the same name, featuring Sean Bean (THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy) in the title role of a chillingly sadistic hitchhiker. Twenty-something couple Grace (a mini-skirted Sophia Bush from ONE TREE HILL) and Jim (Zachary Knighton) embark on a road trip across the American Southwest to meet up with Grace's friends on vacation. Things get off to a bad start when they almost run over a hitchhiker in the middle of a rainstorm, and then leave him to fend for himself. When they later run into the man who calls himself John Ryder (Bean), at a gas station, their consciences get the best of them, and they agree to give him a ride to the next town. The couple's passenger quickly turns on his hosts, and although they manage to escape, he follows them and makes their lives a living hell. Soon, Grace and Jim find themselves framed for John Ryder's vicious crimes, and they are on the run from both the authorities and the Hitcher, of whose existence no one but they are aware. As their flight gets increasingly desperate and the Hitcher's methods of torture more brutal, Grace and Jim struggle desperately to discern what the man wants, and why he has chosen them. The film benefits from its beautiful, desolate desert setting, as it highlights the solitude and desperation of the couple's situation. Despite a few problems of plausibility and the frequent foolishness of the protagonists--of which horror fans are well-accustomed--THE HITCHER delivers fright in all the right places, as well as beautiful women and plenty of gore.

BRAND NEW THE HITCHER 2007 DVD!!!

I really liked this movie. It was not really that scary, but it was suspenseful and kept your attention the entire time. Two thumbs up for Sophia Bush, I did not think that she would be able to act in a horror film but she was GREAT. I love Sophia Bush in the One Tree Hill Seasons but I would recommend the Hitcher to all Sophia Bush fans and for anyone who likes horror movies. I like the ending a lot, but I am not going to tell you because that would ruin the whole movie for you. I REALLY liked this movie because this is actually something that can happen to anyone who picks up a total stranger (compared to other movies)!!!

Overview of the movie:
While driving across the desert, Jim (Zachary Knighton) and Grace (Sophia Bush) stop by the side of the road to pick up a hitchhiker — who turns out to be a murderous psychopath (Sean Bean). While the couple quickly ditches their would-be assassin, the maniacal killer follows them along the dusty back roads and they engage in a nasty game of cat-and-mouse.

Suspense to the extreme!

Review For: The Hitcher (DVD, 2007, Anamorphic Widescreen)

You never know just why the Hitcher does what he does.. you're a smart kid, figure it out. You don't know where this cold blooded killer came from, or where he is going.. but you know that when you're in his sights you will never be safe until you're dead. Did you do something wrong? Are you a zealot, a rich brat, holier than thou? Did you do something to get this guy angry? Doesn't matter, cause if he has his way- you'll be just like him.

Great movie, BETTER than the original. Fantastic deleted scenes, loved the behind the scenes shorts that really gave some insight on how good movies are really made. Sean Bean is excellent, taking over Rutger Hauer's original character perfectly. He really has a way of making you gulp over the smallest, innocent gesture- because you know its not small, its everything with the Hitcher. Sophia Bush is okay, the cute girlfriend that steals the show from her whiney boyfriend. Zachary Knighton is forgettable, though whiney just like C. Thomas Howell from the original made him. Neal McDonough is fantastic as the one cop who wants to believe the kids, and knows there is more than meets the eye to this story- he seems to be the only one. Mr. McDonough was just surprisingly excellent. This the movie to see before any cross country trip!

If you don't expect much, it's awesome

Review For: The Hitcher (DVD, 2007, Anamorphic Widescreen)

The Hitcher

Go into this film expecting very little and you'll enjoy it. It's not meant to be a very scary movie and it's not meant to be taken very seriously.

It's gory and action packed from start to finish, it's predictable but that's ok. The acting is decent, the action scenes are great, and the scenes that are meant to be scary are very decent.

A high note for me was the soundtrack and the use of music in this movie (maybe because a Music Video Director made this movie) but it really added a cool, hip element to this film.

Final Verdict:

4/5

Worth Buying?: If you're a slasher fan it is, if not, it's just a rental.

ONE OF THE MOST STUPID MOVIES I HAVE SEEN

Review For: The Hitcher (DVD, 2007, Anamorphic Widescreen)

For crying out loud - not another genre remake presented in "Stinkerama"! How many times do Hollywood studio hacks need to remake a successful original into a hack imitation to get the message that it's not profitable? The homoerotic tension that lifted the first film above it's genre formula are completely missing here. It isn't even fun rooting for the hitcher on this dopey road trip, and they couldn't do enough bad things to the young leads to satisfy me. It's dumb.

Realistic Thriller

Review For: The Hitcher (DVD, 2007, Anamorphic Widescreen)

I thought that The Hitcher was a very good from the standpoint that not only did it contain the suspense/thrill aspects needed, it also was very realistic. Not many of us will stop for a hitchhiker, especially on a desert road late at night. So when the main characters drove pass this guy, I can see how later when they finally meet he is pissed. The twist from there is cool and its a crazy ride until the end. I wouldn't quite call this a 'must buy' but a good watch since its on cable now.
