Movie synopsis
Clive Barker's feature directing debut graphically depicts the tale of a man and wife who move into an old house and discover a hideous creature--the man's half-brother, who is also the woman's former lover--hiding upstairs. Having lost his earthly body to a trio of S&M demons called the Cenobites, he is brought back into existence by a drop of blood on the floor. He soon forces his former mistress to bring him human sacrifices to complete his body... but the Cenobites won't be happy about this. One of the best horror films of the 1980s, HELLRAISER is based on Barker's novel THE HELLBOUND HEART and was followed by three sequels.

One of the best horror films out there

Review For: Hellraiser (DVD, 2000, 2-Disc Set, Limited Edition)

This movie is one that I'll never forget. It started the whole cult of body piercing in the "not so normal" areas of the body (forhead, lips, etc...)

I actually saw this movie as a teen on the big screen when it first came out and I must say that it changed the way I felt about people all together. The passion that Julia has for Frank was something that I had never seen before. The betrayel and evil that is present in this film really got to me and left me a different person after viewing it. Of course now it's just a good horror flick but back then--WHEW!!! WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! Not only does the movie stress Julia's love Frank (her husbands brother), but it shows how deceiving a person can be. It also shows the lengths of what that person will do for that love. Then when the betrayel sets in, it's just a shocker like no other. It's so quick and heartless that you just can't believe what you're watching. At least it was to me and the people that I saw it with. Then on top of all these horrible human actions that are going on, you then throw in this dimension of hell with these horrific looking monsters. These monsters were demons from a dimension of hell like no other. Again these were visions of pure horror like none that you have ever seen before.
And there you have it. A complete original horror movie that will shock and scare the hell out of you and leave you thinking at the end. This movie was such a success it gave birth to a number of sequels. The second one is about as good, if not just as good as the first one. But I'll never forget the feeling that I had after leaving the theatre of the first Hellraiser. So if you're up for a good 80's horror film, which I am a fanatic of, then I would highly suggest this one. Although if you're reading this then you're probably already a fan...

My brother told me about the Hellraiser movies back in the late 80's early 90's so I rented the first couple and totally enjoyed the exagerated blood flow and make-up. These days, computers do most of the special effects but this movie was the work of very talented make-up artists, actors & writers. How can people think up the strange creature designs in the movie and the bizarre story? Sheer genius, I guess. Clive Barker probably never thought the "Hellraiser" movies would be as popular as they are. This is a Classic!

Top of the line DVD for horror fans

It doesn't get much better than "Hellraiser" when people talk about good horror movies. The storyline would be enough to hold the interest of most people; but "Hellraiser" is punctuated with enough blood and gore to satisfy those who aren't squemish. I had to have at least one Clive Barker film and I had done business with this particular seller already. As with the previous DVD, I was very impressed with the excellent quality of "Hellraiser!" I can find no fault whatsoever with this DVD, and the seller is highly recommended!

Cult Classic...........

Upon viewing Hellraiser for the first time, one will see that it is not a movie for the faint of heart, the gore and blood and guts are pretty prevelant for the first 5-ish minutes but despite what you may have heard, there is not a high level of gore throughout the entire film. The story is about a man named Frank and what happens to him when he solves a mysterious puzzle box that opens a gateway to Hell. It is strangely intreaging and hard not to watch once it draws you in. A must-see for any Horror/Gore fan!

Welcome to Hell!!!

Clive Barker adapted his own story and debut directed for this bloody good 80's movie. Amazingly it stands the test of time, even if it is a little slow at times. The story concerns a puzzle box that opens the gates of Hell where an awesomely demonic Pinhead like to torture victims with cruel, bloody flesh ripping hooks! Especially ones that escape his hellish tortures. That's really bad when a family moves to the house inhabited by the former puzzle box owner.
