| For people looking to restore their faith, this autobiography of a boy who goes to heaven and comes back will leave the reader wanting to find out more. "Heaven Is for Real" is a story about a little boy who lives in Nebraska and undergoes a life-saving surgery that allows him to visit heaven and live to tell about it. Lynn Vincent, Todd Burpo, Colton Burpo, and Sonja Burpo write the remarkable story about a boy whose father is a pastor. While in surgery, the boy slips from consciousness and enters heaven; he claims that, while out of his body, he saw the doctor operating on him and his dad praying in the waiting room. "Heaven Is for Real" goes on to relate how Colton, the boy who visited heaven, met his miscarried sister, about whom no one had ever told him, and his great grandfather who died 30 years before Colton was born. The miracle continues in "Heaven is for Real" when Colton goes on to describe the horse only Jesus could ride and about how “really big” God’s and Jesus’s chairs are, and how the Holy Spirit shoots down power to us to help us on earth. Authors Lynn Vincent, Todd Burpo, Colton Burpo, and Sonja Burpo attempt to describe the power of heaven and explain its reality, that Jesus loves all his children, and that we should be ready for the last coming battle. This autobiography of the young boy and his experience in heaven has captured the attention of many. | |

A young boy emerges from life-saving surgery with remarkable stories of his visit to heaven. Heaven Is for Real is the true story of the four-year old son of a small town Nebraska pastor who during emergency surgery slips from consciousness and enters heaven. He survives and begins talking about being able to look down and see the doctor operating and his dad praying in the waiting room. The family didn't know what to believe but soon the evidence was clear. Colton said he met his miscarried sister, whom no one had told him about, and his great grandfather who died 30 years before Colton was born, then shared impossible-to-know details about each. He describes the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how "reaaally big" God and his chair are, and how the Holy Spirit "shoots down power" from heaven to help us. Told by the father, but often in Colton's own words, the disarmingly simple message is heaven is a real place, Jesus really loves children, and be ready, there is a coming last battle. | |

Heaven is for real was an interesting book. It was very touching to hear of Colton's trip to heaven and back. Colton needed emergency surgery and almost died in the process. Colton's mother Sonja asked him if he remembered the hospital. He replied with "Yes, Mommy, I remember, that's where the angels sang to me." Whenever I read this sentence it gives me goosebumps. Colton then began explaining how the angels sang to him because Jesus saw that he was scared. He proceeded to say they made him feel better. Sonja and Todd were extremely shocked about this. They had no idea what to say. I felt the same way I did not expect him to come out with this.
Todd had some problems too. He had broken his leg into four pieces, cut the tip of his finger off, got kidney stones, and now finds out he has breast cancer. I really feel bad for this family. Too many bad things happening to one family. This book is an incredible way of telling a true experience of meeting God. It can also make people have hope and not be scared. Maybe the next time your in a scary situation God will send the angels to sing to you.

This is an enchanting book that is a fast read. Heaven Is for Real is a book about a young boy’s out of body experience and a journey to heaven. What is very, very different about the story is that it is told and viewed through the eyes of a child which has simplicity, novelty, humor, and uniqueness not found in other accounts of near death experiences. We meet and see Jesus, his cousin, a rainbow horse, and a throne room. The account answers such questions as: are there animals in heaven? Did you see the Blessed Mother? Was does Jesus look like? What about this coming war? When Colton Burpo (the boy who travels to heaven) asks Jesus why he died on the cross? Colton recollects, “Well, Jesus told me he died on the cross so we could go see His Dad.” During his heavenly trip, Colton also meets his unborn sister and his Great Grand Father Pop. Colton never knew his mom had a pregnancy which ended in a miscarriage until he met his sister in Paradise. We learn through Colton’s passage that everyone in heaven is young and nobody wears glasses. If you want to have a glimpse of heaven you will never forget, then this book is for you.
This is a cute book, and surely will be inspirational in
many ways, for many readers. It is written from a Father's
point of view, about his son, and his family. It gives
a little glimpse in to what a typical family is like, in
every sense of normal. Complete with Joy, trials and sadness.
I liked the way Todd tied in his knowledge of scripture
with the experiences his son had. I do not doubt
for a minute that his son had these experiences.
There is so much, that we can not explain in this
life. We may as well all just admit it. Some things
just can not be scientifically proven, and this is one
of those instances. Blessed are those who believe,
and do not see!
There is one thing that struck me though, when Todd
was describing Heaven and who was there with Jesus.
He left out Mary, and did not put her in until the end
of the book, in the Epilogue. I was raised Catholic, though
I do not get hung up on Denomination any more simply because
the Institutions are man made and they are all flawed! I always find
it so interesting that we as Christians are all in the same boat with
Jesus yet, we as Christians, just can not let our differences go,
even in this instance. The Mother of Jesus was left out until the Epilogue?
In my opinion, a fairly low blow, not to me as a person but, to Jesus and his
Mother, Mary. What an inspiration that would have been to give her billing,
where she belonged to be with Jesus, as she was and is his Mother, obviously a
most important part of his life on earth and in heaven. Not to be worshiped or
idolized, simply to be acknowledged for who she is.
A simple read, simply written as it should be, from the perspective, and
experience of a young child. I agree, unless we become like children, we will
not enter the kingdom of heaven.
May the Peace and Love of Jesus rest in your hearts, always.

This was a great book. I am not an avid reader. I find myself wasting a lot of time playing games on the internet, but it was recommended this book to me while a dear friend's little boy was in the hospital in a coma. I decided to check it out. I had a horrible time putting it down. I think I read the whole thing in 4 days flat and would recommend it to anyone. I've believed in God since I was a little girl, but occasionally have doubts. Who doesn't? This book really spoke to me and helped solidify my faith. It makes me want to be more faithful and reminds me how Jesus loves the children and how much more time I should spend helping in the children's ministries at church. There was also a part in the book where the family pointed out a rainbow to little Colton after he recovered from his illness and trip to heaven and he said, "oh yeah, I asked God for that." I decided to do that the other day when we had been getting rain all week. About 2 hours later, the door bell rang with a porch full of neighborhood kids and a rainbow up in the sky behind them--actually, it was a double rainbow! God and Heaven are for Real. I hope you get this book and enjoy it as much as I did.
I bought this book after having someone tell me its a must read. I lost my Mom December 26th, 2009. The worst day of my life!!!! This book was an inspiration for me. I always new heaven was real, but the discription was amazing. The things this little boy had seen are everything I've dreamed heaven would be. I read this book in a little over 4 hours with a few distractions of 4 children. Once I started the book I couldn't put the book down. I have finally found the comfort of Mom going to heaven. I know she is extremely happy and will be waiting on me when I cross over!!! I know Jesus will be the 1st person I see when I enter heaven and I can only imagine how my heart will feel!!! The discussion on the rainbow and colors will always leave me comfort everytime I see one!!! I feel so lucky this family decided to write this book and share the things their son had seen. This book and also with the help of others has helped me with my grieving process from losing my Mom, my best friend!!! Thank you so much, God is working through them to help others!!!
