IT'S QUITE FUNNY THAT YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO THINK ABOUT THE TITLE OF THIS FILM!
Is it I Love Huckabees or I (heart) Huckabees? We never really know and I think that's what the Director really intended.
Being the director of the Gulf-War drama/comedy, "Three Kings" and "Flirting with Disaster", David O. Russell created a montage of dimensional thinking and has come up with a winner in 2004. "I Heart Huckabees" is filled with tri-dimensional people and original dialogue that will leave you thinking and laughing days after seeing this film. Most importantly, it has ideas that most Hollywood executives fear to take on because of our very conventional societal viewpoints.
David O. Russell's claimed that one of the greatest influences for "I Heart Huckabees" was tragedy of 9/11. He is quoted to have said in Film Comment Magazine, "For about two months after 9/11, people were asking really profound questions about reality and existence-and then it was back to business as usual." Indeed this seems to be the case whenever bad things seem to happen in life as people search for the reasoning behind the events and for a meaning to their own existence. Disillusionment often takes place for many affected by tragedy, as has happened to the characters in 'I Heart Huckabees.' From an activist fighting urban sprawl to a firefighter blaming the worlds ills on petroleum hungry nations, 'I Heart Huckabees' presents profound questions about existence with a unique comic approach."
Don't miss this film, but if you are too realistic, a pragmatist, extremely cynical, and have you nose buried somewhere all you life, I recommend you not watch this movie. I've had friends that have just gotten around to watching this and said they hated it. But, for me, I'll go back and watch it again just for the fun of it.
I rank this 4/5 for originality and zany thinking characters.

I Heart Huckabees takes a while to get in to... but once you get into the storyline and philosohpy that it uncovers, I Heart Huckabees is a tremendous movie with an even better cast. Each actor & actress is recognizable, bizarre and does a great job portraying the bizarre characters from the movie. In the end, Mark Wahlberg, Jude Law and Jason Schwartzman brign together a very fun and twisted movie that is as unique ans it is interesting. Highly recommended!

Our dualistic reality is brilliantly portrayed in this profound movie. Ponder on the deeper questions in life while falling in love will all of the characters. Not your average comedy but if you have the right sense of humor then there are few things that will compare with the high you will get the first time you watch this movie. *Please keep in mind before buying this movie that this is a plot-dense movie and you have to watch it several times before catching everything. You also need to have knowledge of opposing spiritual (philisophical) rationalities that attempt to answer the "deeper" questions in life in order to truly appriciate this movie. Otherwise you will think that I built you up for nothing :) Dustin Hoffman and Marky Mark are surprisingly funny.
One of the most disappointing movies I have seen considering the cast. We switched it off after about 55 minutes because it was embarrasing. I have sat through some mindless movies in my time but I am sure those cost a couple of grand to shoot. This cost millions and should have been shelved before anyone showed up. This is the only movie I have ever purchased/rented that I have not watched all the way through. Let that be your guide! In summary I will say this: It is supposed to be strange, experimental and obviously quirky. What I was hoping for was that it also showed some intelligence or at least a deep message that would underly the otherwise bizarre tone. Personally I think this movie is it's director's indulgence and will appeal to a miniscule audience. I will try and watch it again at some point. If the rest of the movie redeems itself I will edit this review.
When watching I Heart Huckabees for the first time, I was cautioned to watch it very closely; the details are easily missed. I am glad I did. This movie has a quick, wry sense of humor that ties in perfectly with the movie's philosophical theme. This theme - the questions of Existentialism versus Nihilism - let I Heart Huckabees playfully address the questions of meaning and existence without imposing any strong conclusions. It is a "questions movie", a thought-provoker, with a strong humorous flavor.
