Editorial reviews

"Composer Nicholas Hooper, cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel and designer Stuart Craig deliver a singularly muscular and vigorous chapter while all the visual and digital effects have now blended seamlessly into the package."
Hollywood Reporter - Kirk Honeycutt (07/05/2009)

4.5 stars out of 5 -- "With Harry, Ron and Hermione feeling the pangs of love and ominous signs that the final battle is nearing, this is the most spectacular and richly satisfying POTTER movie yet, topping all that have come before it."
Box Office - Pete Hammond (07/06/2009)

"Dazzlingly well made...this one is played in a mode closer to palpable life-or-death drama than any of the others and is quite effective as such."
Variety - Todd McCarthy (07/05/2009)

3 stars out of 5 -- "Bumbling, funny and gentle, the rom-com tween heartache feels nicely played by a cast more at home with cheeky humour than dramatic heavy-lifting."
Total Film - Jonathan Crocker (07/07/2009)

"Yates in his second Potter film seems more comfortable with the franchise. He's turned out to be what the series has always felt it needed, a good steward of the material who is respectful of the novels but not overly reverential."
Los Angeles Times - Kenneth Turan (07/14/2009)

3.5 stars out of 4 -- "[S]pellbinding....The cinematography is stunning, and the story unfolds in a stately and unhurried fashion."
USA Today - Claudia Puig (07/14/2009)

"[T]he three leads, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, give their most charming performance to date....HALF-BLOOD PRINCE, with its romantic triangle, its Quidditch high jinks, its gorgeous production design and its bang-up final action sequence, might be the most enjoyable Harry Potter movie yet..."
Washington Post (07/14/2009)

"[T]hose involved will find that the series has matured much as the books did. This is the darkest, saddest, most sophisticated HARRY POTTER film yet."
A.V. Club - Tasha Robinson (07/10/2009)

"Yates is generous with this ensemble, and they repay him with interest....[The cinematographer] makes gorgeous, Oscar-worthy panoramas of everything from impromptu tarantula memorials to handheld-shot, nightmare battles in tall, swampy grass."
Movieline - Zinat S. (07/15/2009)

3 stars out of 4 -- "[T]his sixth chapter is a darker, more ominous Harry Potter film....It opens and closes well, and has wondrous art design and cinematography as always..."
Chicago Sun-Times - Roger Ebert (07/12/2009)

"[T]he filmmakers have found a way to refresh our eyes and enhance our appreciation for this rich, amazing creation." -- Grade: A-
Entertainment Weekly - Lisa Schwarzbaum (07/24/2009)

3.5 stars out of 4 -- "Harry is better than ever, a triumph of wonder and emotional storytelling....All the actors excel at pulling us into the film's mysteries."
Rolling Stone - Peter Travers (07/14/2009)

Keep the tots away from Harry

Review For: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Blu-ray Disc, 2009, Special Edition)

Ah, Harry Potter, a budget spiritual fantasy series. Although shallow as literature, Potter movies are certainly exciting, in fact, the special effects make them fantastic. The real problem with Harry is the movie's incitement toward witchcraft. If you're one of the 1 in 100 who step into these practices because of Harry's tempting stories, don't expect to finish well like he does. Real witchcraft leads to real evil, and people who get mixed up in it really change. "Years One to Five" is yet another doorway into a haunted, dark life. Better to stick with Frodo & Narnia. Keep the kids away from these movies.

Harry and Ron getting some

Review For: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Blu-ray Disc, 2009, Special Edition)

So the title up top is mostly what the movie is about. Harry and Ron spend most of their time trying to snog on some of nasty witches. But of course snice its a kids movie, no real rutting going on. But other than the magical trio groping at others in the dark, Harry must pry from a professor's head the secret to THE DARK LORD's death. But HE-WHO-MUST-NOT-BE-NAMED will not go gently into that good night, not without setting his newest deatheater on his task. Malfoy is sent with a mission. A mission known only to him, the DARK LORD, and the one binded by the unbreakable vow, SNAPE.

We enjoyed it

Review For: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Blu-ray Disc, 2009, Special Edition)

Good movie. It looked great in HD. The digital edition download code had expired by the time we purchased this disc. Not a problem for us. I was also a bit worried about how this BD would look because I had read reports of it being too dark. Although there were many scenes where it was dark (like when Harry and Dumbledore are in a cave) it was never too dark for my tastes.

Best Cinematography yet!

Review For: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Blu-ray Disc, 2009, Special Edition)

Spectacular! Just when you thought they couldn't top the last one. The continuation of the Harry Potter sequel not only brings you more up close and personal with the stars, (who are growing up very fast)but the special effects are beyond awesome. Seeing it in Blu-Ray is so vivid--you'll find yourself ducking the lightning bolts on your couch..it's so "in your face"..I highly recommend you experience this film on Blu-Ray..

Great Movie!

Review For: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Blu-ray Disc, 2009, Special Edition)

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is a great addition to the series. Plenty of action, mixed with some humor and a great in-depth story will keep anyone, even those who have not read the books, engrossed throughout the entire film.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is a definite must have for any Harry Potter fan.
