"Hans Christian Andersen" is a nice little movie which is very loosely based on the life of the Danish author of the same name. Danny Kaye is very good in this role that will be enjoyed by the entire family. This light-hearted movie has a beautiful musical score that will have you humming a couple of the tunes for days. Some may think that the ballet portion of the story slows the picture down... but it is all in good fun and does give many a peek at a part of the arts which isn't seen by many these days. In remembering this movie from my youth, I sought-out this movie on eBay and found it at a reasonable price. This will now be a part of our family movie library - not as a classic, but rather one of those movies that make you smile upon remembering the times that you watched it as a child and remembering the sound of your father singing the tunes around your home. *I'll never forget that... and I wanted to share that with my own children. - (Feb. 2007)
This Movie speaks for itself. The music and songs are ones you will find yourself humming for days to come. With a story loosely based off of Hans Christian Andersen His stories that we love. The Ugly duckling, Thumbellina and many more. With Beautiful ballet scenes this movie is great for young and old.One of my Favorites
Great musical! Great movie, both for adults and kids. Timeless classic! Danny Kaye at his best spinning tales of Hans Christian Anderson. A great movie for the entire family to sit down and enjoy!
Highly underrated timeless movie suitable for adults and children. Possibly Danny Kaye's finest performance. Beautiful color, beautiful dancing and great songs the whole family can enjoy. It was hard to find on DVD to replace my VHS copy.
I bought this to replace one I had and used to inuseablity. It's always been a favorite of mine from childhood and now is my granddaughter's favorite as well.
The songs all teach you something, the stories too, as well as just being catchy and fun. The trip to Copenhagen was a dream come true and a learning lesson as well for Hans and Peter. They both grew up a lot and learned that home is where the heart is.
I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoyed Danny Kaye, who enjoys the fables and fairy tales of a younger more innocent time.
This is deffinately a movie to start a tradition with.
