When buying coins on eBay I always insist on them being professionally graded by one of three companies-ANACS, PCGS or NGC. They are the most reliable grading services and this 1808 capped bust half was no exception. I personally search for low grade early half dollars because I feel very few are available by these criteria. They are affordable, rare and a solid investment. You can't go wrong!
In the early years, 1807-1808 the new U.S. mint was just finding out how to mint accurate coins. Their process was multistaged, creating many die variants. This series of early coins will be very valuable. As far as third party grading; I prefer to buy what I like. The real value is in collecting what you want, at the price, you want to pay. Look for the buy it now; or best offer. Make an offer you want, and begin the excitment. Remember in collecting; value is in the heart. Choose only uncleaned coins.
