The HP Pavilion line of f-series monitors (1503, 1703, and 1903) are an excellant value for the money. The picture is sharp and the menu of adjustment features allows the monitor to work well in practically any environment. When originally sold, these monitors were often paired up with a proprietary set of Harman/Kardon speakers (5 watts) that uniquely draw their power from the back of the monitor, rather than taking up another spot on your power strip. The speakers offer excellant sound in a small package and are light enough to hang up out of the way. If you are looking for a good value in a non hi-def, non wide-format monitor, you can't go wrong with these.
At the foreign factories that HP uses, the power circuit board for many of these displays were given a latent problem. The silicon paste they used eventually causes internal components to heat and this translates into a display that goes blank during the first 10 sec. of use. This phenomena starts occuring after 2 or 3 years of monitor usage.
The fix is easy to find in the internet, but otherwise after fixing them, these monitors are excellent. The look is modern with a silver bezel on a dark blue case. I love the blue power button that seems to fit so many HP products.
The stand for this monitor is wonderful, it bends in many up/down/sideways to allow almost any frontal view.
i like the Hewlett Packard Pavilion F1703 17 inch LCD Monitor
its is good working condition no staches.dents it just perfect.
I have bought two HP F1703 17 inch LCD monitors, with back light failure. This is easily repaired by soldering the power circut board. After this minor repair both monitors have performed excellent for gaming and Ebaying.
It appears the foreign factories where HP monitors are made have given the power circuit board for many of these displays a latent problem. The silicon paste they used eventually causes internal components to heat and this translates into a display that goes blank during the first few seconds of use. This phenomena starts occuring after 2 or 3 years of monitor usage. It is a relatively easy fix if you have any soldering ability. The torodial inductors (3) typically will develop a cold or cracked solder joint. Look for them with a magnifying glass. Simply reheating the joint will usually fix the problem. I repaireed mine without any difficulty. The color is great and love the blue power button. I use two of them on the same computer and my wife will not live without them. Hope this helps.
