I worked for a large corporation for 37 years and this was the B&W printer they used. When I retired, I got real tired of fighting with home printers. I did some checking and this printer will print around 10,000 b&w copies per toner cartridge. Further checking showed me that these cartridges could be purchsed for LESS than a lot of ink jet cartridges. Have been using this printer on our home wireless network (Ethernet port to a wireless router) for over a month now and will never go back to inkjet. This is just workhorse of a printer.
HP 4100 is a great printer. I have a total of 5. I had a 4000 too, for over 15 years, but it finally was just retired, only because its slow and the developer went. It had over 600K prints on it. I think its going to salvation army. I like the hp4100 them because they are fast and last forever. They can be found at reliable resellers like the email@example.com. I just bought another one from these guys for only $150 shipped, (used, but refurbished). the toner, the rollers are all available on line for great prices too. Where can you buy a quality printer with a 6 month warranty for that price. If you look around, you will see these printers still in use in banks, auto dealerships, real estate offices, law offices, even in church offices! Why do they have them, because they are like tanks! they rarely break down and they last forever! Way to go HP!!
For the last 12 years ALL I have purchased for several offices is the HP LaserJet printer (4050tn and 4100n) series. The HP LaserJet is PHENOMENAL!!
The print quality is 100%, the speed of printing is amazing and the overall quality is without equal.
I have purchased a lot of other HP items and will stand by the QUALITY without reservation--even the computer models! You can never go wrong with HP.
The 4100n has some refinements that put it over the top when it comes to printers.
There is NOTHING I dislike about the HP printer.
It's a working horse!
Cartridge takes a bucket of ink which will last.... You do the math. Yes, you can pick one up for around $20 from Ebay. Printer can be hooked up through USB Print Server. Cool! I have AirLink PS. Just buy USB to Parallel cable from Ebay for about $5. Well, shipping takes about 2 weeks. Also Network, if the Router is close to the unit. "n" in 4100n is for Network. Hence, Network card should come with it. Or go strait to PC via USB to Parallel. Yes, not all USB to Parallel cables would work if printer is hooked up via USB Print Server. Have no idea why? I got one that is working fine. The other one by Inland, would not work.
Not sure why, but those that come with mini-CD would not work.
This HP LaserJet is the work horse of printers and, unfortunately, not made anymore. This is the third one I've purchased for use in my office and YES, I'm using all three (networked computers). I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one, obviously! It is a big printer so definitely made for a business use.
