Great printer/Fax/scanner except paper output

Pros : Quick start, Does not stay humming while not in use, easy setup, amazing small footprint considering all the different functions it can do, Paper can be loaded without having to open drawer, Paper holder and 1 sheet feed load paper the same way.

Cons:Output paper pushes previous pages out, When you send send a fax there is now indication it was succesful.

We run a business and this printer gets a lot of use 140 paychecks every week plus all the other documents. We have a main printer for all computers in the office and this one is dedicated to our payroll/bookkeeper there was not a need for color printing on this printer so it saves us quite a bit on all those lase cartridges.

Switching documents:
With several different checking accounts switching media type was important and wanted to do it quickly. Not having a drawer to pull out was an important factor also since this printer sat on the desk there would always be papper in fron - with drawer you would have to move those papers to first. We did remove the plastic paper cover so that we did not have to keep lifting that to switch documents. The single page feeder loads media in the same direction as the paper tray - this was very annoying on other printers because you would have to think about which way to load the paper when you used the manual paper feeder.

Quite when not printing:
We really like the fact that when you print the print engine starts up but immediatly shuts down after printing. We had printers in the past that would stay on all the time which is very annoying - I don't know how they accomplished this but it is a great feature.

Small footprint:
It is truly amazing how much this printer can do and how little space it takes up on the desktop!

Scanning/Faxing:
We do not use the printer a lot for these functions but when we do it seems to work very well and all the options including scanning to PDF are great. Have not used it yet for faxing because we are worried that we would have checks in there and a fax would print on the checks - There are some features on the printer to send fax to computer - have not worked on these features yet. Sending a fax is easy and works well except there is no confirmation that fax went through but I guess if you do not get an error tha it did not then you can assume it sent ok.

Paper Output:
This is the one con about the printer that stopped it from getting an excellent rating. When paper is comming into the output tray it comes out at the same level as the paper already in the output tray so it actually pushes the page befor it about an inch before it goes on top of it. This is ok when you are printing less then 7 pages but after that the papers are pushed out of the output tray and you have to manually push the paper back as the printer is printing. So you could not leave this printer and have it print 20 pages of document or you will have about 10 pages on your desk scattered.

Overall we would buy this printer again and it works very well for our needs.

HP LaserJet 3050 Home use

My company bought and sent me a HP LJ 3050 to use at my remote location 3.5 yrs ago. I use it daily for scanning, printing, faxing and copying. It works flawlwessly, I've not had one problem with in 3.5 yrs. I like it so much I bought one for my home, now I have one machine that does it all, good by fax and scanner.

HP hit the bulls eye with this one.

what is this for?

I buy this printer as used. The quality of printing is not at all good. It smudge very bad on paper. I can't even use the scanner. The copier is not hard to adjust, I spend twenty minute to enlarge the orginal, but I could not. It might have something to do with my computer, yet it is not a user friendly to my standard. I use it as a fax machine.

Love It.

I love this printer so much I bought 2 more for businesses I am involved in. It is a great Fax machine. I love to make single copies of checks or other simple documents (not good for multiple copies of same document) And I couldn't be more pleased with the black and white prints it makes. The tray holds ample paper and you can slip another 10-12 sheets above the tray for special print jobs, ie. a check run or special paper.

It is terrific for small business use.

Small footprint big results

This printer is a very good printer for the small price I paid. It is a used not refurbished printer and so far it seems to be working well. There are other color scanners that are better but it is not the main reason I bought the multifunction printer fax scanner. After installing the software I did not get the scan button to work from the scanner but I can initiate ascan from my computer so I have a woraround. I will keep looking for better drivers. I had another HP scanner configured and the install of the 3050 software wiped out my configuration for the current scanner. Over all I am satisfied because I got such a good deal. Time will tell whether it was worth it. Also, I bought a warranty to cover the printer engine and other key parts so I hope that if it happens to die soon at least I can get all my money back. I would recommend the printer. I would not pay full price for this printer and may never buy new again when used and refurbished equipment may meet my needs.
