To be honest, I'm really new at Guitar Hero stuff.. if I stumbled upon this great game was because I heard there were some of my favorite rock songs from my early teenage years... Nirvana, Rammstein, Blur, BON Jovi, among others.
Graphics - Graphically the game is the best in the series for the ps2, you can create your own hero customize it with a lot of unlockable content as well, and it looks very slick while you're hammering you're favorite tunes. Though I still have to acquire the Metallica for PS2 as well, I have heard it's the best, I'll put that to the test in my next review. 8/10
GamePlay/Controllers - Hmm.. I was really skeptical that a Ps3 guitar would work on the long gone ps2 system, but to my surprise it's probably the best feeling of the guitar itself that made me stick with it. It has just around the perfect weight and level of difficulty for a guitar, though as I have mentioned earlier I am very new at this.. but I started playing out in medium and so far I'm loving it.. The Controllers are really responsive and I've been almost 10 feet away from the tv and the wireless usb adapter does the job exceptionally. 10/10
Content - The track-list is to me the most enjoyable, there are also a lot of unlockable characters, Santana Kurt Cobain, Shirley Manson, etc,. I have plaid around half of the game and I am very impressed with the songs available. Who doesn't love Teen Spirit by Nirvana?? or Song # 2 by Blur.. or who wouldn't want to go crazy jamming Du Hast by Rammstein.. we also have a few from The White Stripes. my son's favorite song from Flushed Away also, Dancing with My Self from Billy Idol, and also another great track from Gorillaz, Feel Good, Inc. Overall there's a song for everyone in the game. though I'm not a really knowledgeable rock fanatic I really love most of the tracks in the game, but probably the one that does it for me,is In My Place by ColdPlay, such an awesome feeling that track. I give it a 9/10 for content.
Extras - The Game itself has a ton of extra stuff to unlock (I've named a few so far) but there's plenty of stuff to do, and probably the coolest thing after World tour is that you can hammer with 3 more of your buddies and have 2 guitarists and 2 bassists, which makes me much more enjoyable and watch them raw at each other when someone goes off key.. (it's hilarious seriously!!) 8/10
Overall - I guess I came a bit too late on the Guitar Hero era, but even though I paid about a quarter of the retail price (which msrp goes for 89.99 bucks) I probably would have paid it in full.. it is well worth it. For those mates out there who have any of the next gen console, it's really well worth the penny..
Hope this was helpful, but afterall anyone can say what's wrong and what's bad, but for some it might be the other way around, so I suggest to get it if you can find it, since it's becoming a rare title if you can.
Overall Score - 9/10
Even though it's a brand new released game for the ps2, it's pretty good, but the gameplay and the new features are different for the ps2 version, but it's a great game. it has a pretty good setlist and cool features for the new GH5 game. plus, since my dad loves carlos santana from santana, it makes this game also great, and i also like the awesome rockers from popular bands like kurt cobain from nirvana, johnny cash from his own name as a band name, and matt bellamy from muse. BTW 6 stars = FC (Full Combo) to make sure it's a REAL FC! :)
Guitar Hero 5's track list contains 85 songs by 83 separate artists, and like previous Guitar Hero games, several musicians with works in the game have been modeled through motion capture for avatars in the game, including Johnny Cash, Carlos Santana, Shirley Manson, Kurt Cobain, and Matthew Bellamy. The game continues to support the user-created music studio introduced in World Tour through GHTunes, and additional downloadable content for the game will be made available. A majority of existing downloadable tracks from World Tour are forward-compatible with Guitar Hero 5, along with selected tracks from World Tour and Guitar Hero Smash Hits.
The game was well-received by reviewers who appreciated the improvements in the accessibility of the game, allowing players to immediately jump in and play without spending excessive time in the game's menus. Improvements to both the Career and competitive multiplayer modes were also highlights of the game. However, the game's track list was considered to be too broad, that while players will likely find a number of songs they enjoyed, they would also likely enough find a number that they would not like, and some controversy arose over the inclusion of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain in the game.
For the over improvements made to GH5 from WT makes the game worth a buy (if your into music synth. games) With more features and game mode's it made the game funnier than just play a song, record the data and pick a new one.... With these features they also pumped the basic career up with earnable game objects but have challenges to unlock if it be on Bass too playing Drums or Singing(this for some killed the game since certain people WILL not notice how i say WILL; play bass or sing some people are just stuck in their own ego's)
For multiplayer its great with new modes and ability to switch up band members, the only downfall is after the 7mounth of being released the populations online have dropped highly, mostly now only finding people for Quick play, finding 2+ people for Rockfest,Band VS Band, Face-Offs are very low low populated so if achievements are your thing than these 4-6 are going to be hard unless u has friends to boost.)
For the Achievements they are pretty up straight and forward, some easy some hard. For a small example some hard ones are playing a song as 4 Bass or 4 Vocal (you'll understand why these are hard to do if your a GH player from the past lol.... but over all its mostly game play related so you gotta play the game to unlock your skill and knowledge will help unlock more)
Overall : very happy when i bought GH5, game play and graphics are soo much better than previous GH titles, and over and out-do Rockband games. The DLC which is growing every month has been getting better for selections but still personally am finding lot's of people on WT and 5 with no DLC....... fyi my GH5 list is 224songs) And now that you can find the game cheaper and or used at better prices, you really cant go wrong unless your not a Music Synth. Fan
For fans of the Guitar Hero series, this is by far one of the best in that series. Excellent setlist, excellent gameplay. In previous GH titles, you had to unlock all the songs by completing a certain number of songs in different locations. IN Gh 5, all the songs are unlocked and ready to play in Quickplay mode. The bonus battles in Career mode have you playing against the likes of Zakk Wylde, Billy Corbin, and Carlos Santana. Great game to kill time with, especially when you play "Do You Feel Like We Do?", which is about a 14 minute song. Great graphics and decent load times. Highly recommended for the serious GH fan!
