Movie synopsis
A test pilot embraces his destiny as a cosmic superhero in CASINO ROYALE director Martin Campbell's adaptation of the popular DC Comics series. Ever since he saw his fearless father perish in a tragic aviation mishap, all Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) could think about was flying -- it was the only thing the brash, cocky, and irresponsible test pilot ever truly excelled at. Little did he realize he was destined for something much bigger. Somewhere out in space, a powerful force of evil known as Parallax is spreading fear and destruction; the only hope for defeating Parallax is the Green Lantern Corps, a group of intergalactic warriors powered by the force of will. When legendary Green Lantern Abin Sur (Temuera Morrison) is sent hurtling toward planet Earth after a deadly encounter with Parallax, his ring chooses Hal to continue the fight. The ring spirits our hero away to the Green Lantern's home planet of Oa for training. The first human ever to receive the honor of becoming a Green Lantern, Hal is viewed with scorn by the league's leader, Sinestro (Mark Strong), who trains him alongside the hulking Kilowog (voice of Michael Clarke Duncan). Later, on planet Earth, frail scientist Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard) becomes infected with Parallax's evil while performing an autopsy on Abin Sur, and uses his newfound powers to stake claim on Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), Hal's lifelong friend and fellow test pilot. When Hal learns that Parallax plans to consume all life on Earth to gain the energy needed to conquer Oa, he begins looking inward for the courage to defeat the malevolent force and embrace his destiny as a super-powered peacekeeper., Join Ryan Reynolds in a fight for justice against evil forces with the "Green Lantern" action movie. In this DVD a special team of superheroes known as the "Green Lantern" Corps vow to protect the galaxy from corruption and evil. Each member of this brotherhood wears a ring endowing them with supernatural powers. However, when an evil enemy known as Parallax threatens to destroy the world of peace and justice this organization painstakingly maintains, chooses a human-being (Hal Jordan) is included in the team to make things right. Packed with super powers, force-fields, and various action sequences, this action movie is thoroughly entertaining. Derived from the popular comic series, the "Green Lantern" certainly does a lot of justice to it as a movie. Moreover, this "Green Lantern" DVD boasts great cinematic composition and detail to keep you entertained throughout.

Not as bad as Rottentomatoes says

Review For: Green Lantern (DVD, 2011)

I've seen a lot of negative reviews of this movie, but after watching it I can say it's not that bad... nothing special, but not bad. I'm a casual Green Lantern fan, personally; I know about the character from Justice League and other cartoons, but I've never read the comics.

The movie's plot is pretty standard as superhero movies go: a brash, headstrong pilot named Hal Jordan gets a ring that lets him create anything he can imagine through force of will (the prologue explains that Will (represented by the color green) and fear (yellow) are sources of power in this universe), and he becomes part of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force. I found the scenes on Oa, the Green Lantern planet, particularly cool in their visual design. Meanwhile, a cosmic fear entity called Parallax escapes from its asteroid prison and sets out to destroy Earth, and only Hal has the courage to stop it.

I'll grant that this movie doesn't live up to the hype surrounding its theatrical release, but the movie itself is pretty well done, especially the visual effects. If anything, this movie fails by not being more than a typical superhero movie.

As for the dvd, the only special features are a preview of Justice League #1 digital comic and a preview of the Green Lantern Animated Series. Basically, all you're getting here is the movie.

Good comic book film. Great characters and the feeling that you are in it is very believable. The only problems are that is is WAY too loud, even in the theaters and that Ryan Reynolds isn't a very belivable Green Lantern. Ryan Reynolds is a wise cracking, smart ass and funny guy. Green Lantern isn't. Ryan Reynolds would be better off sticking to Deadpool from X-Men. But, that does not make the film bad. The visuals were AMAZING and very life like. The story was well thought out and stuck pretty good to the comics in my opinion with some originality which is always a good thing, and the characters were well picked. All in all, great film for fans of action or even comics.

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

The action, the story and the special FX. are top of the line. Can't wait for the next Green Lantern movie. A must see and a must own. I was never a fan of the comic book or the cartoon, but the movie and the story line are soooo good I will soon be a real fan. Well written and well directed.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie!!

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I grew up intermitently reading Green Lantern. I did not catch the movie on the big screen and now wish I had!

I got this version of the movie primarily for the extended scenes, which in my opinion, flesh out the movie a little better. People ragged on Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan but I think he did an excellent job.

I only wish I was part of the Green Lantern Corp myself now!

Review For: Green Lantern (DVD, 2011)

Ryan Reynolds was by far the best choice as the Green Lantern. The movie is a little vague but does have its action and comedy in it.The story was pretty well they actually explain what is going on.Unlike some movies where they throw you into the middle of the conflict and have no clue whats going on.
