I've seen a lot of negative reviews of this movie, but after watching it I can say it's not that bad... nothing special, but not bad. I'm a casual Green Lantern fan, personally; I know about the character from Justice League and other cartoons, but I've never read the comics.
The movie's plot is pretty standard as superhero movies go: a brash, headstrong pilot named Hal Jordan gets a ring that lets him create anything he can imagine through force of will (the prologue explains that Will (represented by the color green) and fear (yellow) are sources of power in this universe), and he becomes part of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force. I found the scenes on Oa, the Green Lantern planet, particularly cool in their visual design. Meanwhile, a cosmic fear entity called Parallax escapes from its asteroid prison and sets out to destroy Earth, and only Hal has the courage to stop it.
I'll grant that this movie doesn't live up to the hype surrounding its theatrical release, but the movie itself is pretty well done, especially the visual effects. If anything, this movie fails by not being more than a typical superhero movie.
As for the dvd, the only special features are a preview of Justice League #1 digital comic and a preview of the Green Lantern Animated Series. Basically, all you're getting here is the movie.
Good comic book film. Great characters and the feeling that you are in it is very believable. The only problems are that is is WAY too loud, even in the theaters and that Ryan Reynolds isn't a very belivable Green Lantern. Ryan Reynolds is a wise cracking, smart ass and funny guy. Green Lantern isn't. Ryan Reynolds would be better off sticking to Deadpool from X-Men. But, that does not make the film bad. The visuals were AMAZING and very life like. The story was well thought out and stuck pretty good to the comics in my opinion with some originality which is always a good thing, and the characters were well picked. All in all, great film for fans of action or even comics.
The action, the story and the special FX. are top of the line. Can't wait for the next Green Lantern movie. A must see and a must own. I was never a fan of the comic book or the cartoon, but the movie and the story line are soooo good I will soon be a real fan. Well written and well directed.
I grew up intermitently reading Green Lantern. I did not catch the movie on the big screen and now wish I had!
I got this version of the movie primarily for the extended scenes, which in my opinion, flesh out the movie a little better. People ragged on Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan but I think he did an excellent job.
I only wish I was part of the Green Lantern Corp myself now!
Ryan Reynolds was by far the best choice as the Green Lantern. The movie is a little vague but does have its action and comedy in it.The story was pretty well they actually explain what is going on.Unlike some movies where they throw you into the middle of the conflict and have no clue whats going on.
