Movie synopsis
This film adaptation of GREASE is the zippy smash hit translation from the Broadway musical tribute to the fabulous 1950s. As a new school year begins, wholesome Australian exchange student Sandy (pop star Olivia Newton-John) and duck-tailed, leather-jacketed Danny (John Travolta) parlay their summertime romance into an on-and-off attraction that may or may not cross clique lines. Sandy seriously cramps Danny's style, so he dumps her. In response, Sandy begins dating a wholesome athlete, but, as a hedge, she also joins the gum-chewin', tough-talkin' clique known as the Pink Ladies. One of the most beloved musicals of all time, the popular soundtrack includes "You're the One that I Want," "Hopelessly Devoted to You," "Sandy," "Summer Nights," and the title tune.

Grease is Forever

This movie is a classic rendition of a long running Broadway play. John Travolta, already a star from Saturday Night Fever, and Olivia Newtown John, who rocketed to music stardom after a string of hits, make this timeless movie a classic forever. They play high school boyfriend-girlfriend in the days of Elvis, when old cars were important to teenage boys, and hair and sleepovers were important to high school girls. It is a trip back in time musically enhanced with lots of famous songs, including the title song, which was written for the movie. Stockard Channing is also great in a supporting role as the leader of the Pink Ladies, a harmless gang other than the gossip they produced. Jeff Conaway, who was in the Broadway cast as John Travolta's part now plays his best friend.

This movie has great songs including "Beauty School Dropout," "You're the One That I Want," and the title song. This movie, being based on the longest running Broadway play, is every bit as good as its origins.

Grease is the word!

Being a huge fan of this movie since its release in the 70's, I had to buy this DVD. The movie looks and sounds great, and so does the bonus material-commentary by its director and choreographer, deleted scenes, interviews with its stars, and more.

My only minor gripe is with the design of the DVD. Why is there a baby blue color theme? When I think of Grease I think of black, pink, or leather. I also don't like the choice of music ("You're the One That I Want") for the main menu screen. I spend a lot of time on the menu screens and a loud repeating music can be annoying after a while. Mind you, I love all the songs of the film, but I would've preferred, maybe, an instrumental version of "Hand Jive" for the menu screen.

Overall, this is an excellent DVD all Grease fans should own.

Fun and music

John Travolta and Olivia Newton John made this classic movie a hit not with their acting or storyline but from their music.
The music is by far the best thing about this. The movie itself is more about having sex to please your boyfriend or not than anything else. And Travolta and John are a bit old to be in high school. But the music and the comedy are fantastic. There is not one song that is not enjoyable.
The 1950s look like lots of fun with fast cars and crazy antics.
I've watched this at least 5 times and I would not hesitate to buy it. I would watch it again and again. It's definitely one That I Want!!

it's an energetic and exciting musical

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

Riding the strange '50s nostalgia wave that swept through America during the late 1970s (caused by TV shows like Happy Days and films like American Graffiti), Grease became not only the word in 1978, but also a box-office smash and a cultural phenomenon. Twenty years later, this entertaining film adaptation of the Broadway musical received another successful theatrical release, which included visual remastering and a shiny new Dolby soundtrack. While this 2002 DVD release contains retrospective interviews with the cast and director Randal Kleiser, it's unfortunately full screen. As a result, the widescreen dance numbers are instead panned and scanned, destroying the symmetrical, lively choreography. A widescreen version is also available and is highly recommended because without the vibrant colors, unforgettably campy and catchy tunes (like "Greased Lightning," "Summer Nights," and "You're the One That I Want"), and fabulously choreographed, widescreen musical numbers, the film has to rely on a silly, cliché-filled plot that we've seen hundreds of times. As it is, the episodic story about the romantic dilemmas experienced by a group of graduating high school seniors remains fresh, fun, and incredibly imaginative.
The young, animated cast also deserves a lot of credit, bringing chemistry and energy to otherwise bland material. John Travolta, straight from his success in Saturday Night Fever, knows his sexual star power and struts, swaggers, sings, and dances appropriately, while Olivia Newton-John's portrayal of virgin innocence is the only decent acting she's ever done. And then there's Stockard Channing, spouting sexual double-entendres as Rizzo, the bitchy, raunchy leader of the Pink Ladies, who steals the film from both of its stars. Ignore the sequel at all costs.

John Travolta solidified his position as the most versatile and magnetic screen presence of the decade in this film version of the smash hit play Grease. Recording star Olivia Newton-John made her American film debut as Sandy, Travolta's naive love interest. The impressive supporting cast reads like a "who's who" in this quintessential musical about the fabulous '50s. Grease is not just a nostalgic look at a simpler decade--it's an energetic and exciting musical homage to the age of rock 'n' roll!

Grease DVD

This is a fantastic movie. I love John Travolta and Olivia Newton John in this movie. They both have fantastic voices and I love to listen to them both sing.

Sandy (Olivia) meets Danny (John) on the beach. They have just a little time together before Sandy has to go back to Australia. But plans soon change and they end up at the same school. Danny dumps her soon after cause she is cramping his style. Sandy changes her style to try and win him back.

Its really a great movie for everyone. The music is fantastic throughout the whole film.

watch it today!
