Grand Theft Auto III is a 2001 open world action-adventure video game devel

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

Grand Theft Auto III is a 2001 open world action-adventure video game developed by DMA Design (now Rockstar North) in the United Kingdom, and published by Rockstar Games. It is the first 3D title in the Grand Theft Auto series. It was released in October 2001 for the PlayStation 2, May 2002 for Windows, in November 2003 for the Xbox and in November 2010 for OS X. It was made available on Steam on January 4, 2008[5] and on the Mac App Store on August 18, 2011. It was released on iOS and Android on December 15, 2011, and on the PlayStation 3 in September 2012. The game is preceded by Grand Theft Auto 2 and succeeded by Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
GTA III is set in modern Liberty City, a fictional metropolitan city based on New York City. The game follows the story of a criminal named Claude[a] who was betrayed by his girlfriend in a bank heist and begins to work his way up the crime ladder of the city before confronting her. GTA lll is composed of elements from driving games and third-person shooters.
The game's concept and gameplay, coupled with the use of a 3D game engine for the first time in the series, contributed to Grand Theft Auto III's positive reception upon its release; it became 2001's top-selling video game[6] and is cited as a landmark in video games for its far-reaching influence within the industry.[7] GTA III's success was a significant factor in the series' subsequent popularity; as of 2008, five GTA prequels set before events in GTA III have been released, particularly Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories which revisits GTA III's setting just three years prior. GTA III's violent and sexual content has also been the source of public concern and controversy. According to Metacritic, GTA III and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 both hold an average critic score of 97 out of 100, making them the highest-rated PlayStation 2 games of all time.

Review For: Grand Theft Auto III (Sony PlayStation 2, 2012)

I chose dots as the title to this review, because, I'm not sure if I'm the only one who noticed this or not, but the guy NEVER SAYS ONE DAMN WORD!
I realized that one day and it had me cracking up for half an hour.
granted, I'm still on the mission where you have to rescue that lady from the cartel... which I've been at for months now =\

anywho, wheeeere to begin... this game is too sweet for it's own good.

you play as this guy. I don't know his name, age, nationality, what he likes on his burgers, or anything. all I know is his girlfriend was a b****.
it starts out you're pulling a bank job. you, your then-girlfriend and some other dude are running out the back of the bank. they're ahead of you when you hear a gunshot. you round the corner to a gun in your face, as you see your accomplice lying on the ground, dead. "sorry honey, but you're just small time" your girlfriend says before she shoots you (must not have been in the face cuz you survived)
you're tried, and on the way to jail someone blows up the bridge, freeing you and all the other inmates. you and your new friend 8-ball grab a car and head for your base (of the moment, which is a run-down hole-in-the-wall room downtown). from then on, it's just nuts. you get drawn into a mafioso maelstrom, as you remain taciturn.

the controls are precise, and tight. learning curve of about half an hour.
the music is great, as you have a full range of music on your car stereo.
the gameplay is so addictive, you can spend hours just running around, entering the cheat codes and blowing stuff up and beating up on random passers-by. I used to see how many helicopters I could take out before being overwhelmed. for those times when you just wanna shoot s*** up, I'd recommend the monorail system tracks. you're virtually untouchable up there.

anywho, the story keeps you drawn in. you feel the betrayals, and the revenge.
you feel the satisfaction of a job well done, and the shame of a job totally down the sh**er "DAMMIT! I ONLY HAD TO TAKE OUT ONE MORE SNIPER!!!" etc etc

if you like your games violent, mafia-esque, and addictive, then this will suit you well.

I can't actually fathom anyone owning a PS2 and not owning this game.
this was the first game I bought for it. and the only one I needed for over a month, even without a memory card.

A good beginner game for PS2

Review For: Grand Theft Auto III (Sony PlayStation 2, 2012)

This game was a good beginner game to GTAs series of games to come, because it showed basically how the others would be like. If you like driving and running over people with a car while doing missions and earning money; this is one of 3 games for you. The other 2 are of course the other 2 GTA's and 3 if you have a PSP also, unless they realease GTA Liberty City out on PS2 also. This game taught you the basics of the upcoming GTA's. to drive, dodge cops, and also how to earn losts of money without doing much work at all. In the others you will also learn other things that help earning money and getting away from cops easier and faster, but until you get to that point this game is for you.

    Sniper Anyone?

Review For: Grand Theft Auto III (Sony PlayStation 2, 2012)

Like most people I know, how could you stand playing the original Grand Theft Autos on the first Playstation? I know I couldn't...maybe the ariel view made me sick. One of the biggest anticipations for games to be released in 2001, Grand Theft Auto III is the V8 balls to the walls for action/driving games. This sniper rifle toting, people shooting, car smashing, hooker struting, mafia genre will have you playing for hours on end. Probably without a doubt one of my favorite games of all time.

Oh that's right the game also has missions which is the key summary of GTAIII. Okay so if you get bored of just smashing into cars, snipering peoples heads off, or riding around in an Army tank, you can play the many missions that are just as fun, exciting and sometimes funny. What's also great is they have an A-list cast doing the voice overs for the characters. So get out there, steal that police cruiser, buckle up and avoid the FBI at all costs.

A Must Have for Mature Audiences!

Grand Theft Auto III (GTA III) revolutionized the gaming scene with it's open ended playing style. Basically in GTA III you are dropped in the middle of a large and busy city and allowed to do basically whatever you want. You can steal a car and go cruising around town. You can mug people on the streets. You can go on a rampage and take out all the gang members hanging out in the city park. Plus at any time you can go to a variety of locations and recieve a mission to accomplish. During missions you'll pick up key people and take them to another location, you'll do dirty work for the mob, you'll compete in street races, you'll use bazookas and tanks to take out the police, and commit all manner of mischief and crimes. There's so much to do, see, and explore that you could play this game forever and not find, see, and do everything. This is not a game for childeren, but if you're old enought to handle it, you simply can't exclude this game from your xbox collection.
