Movie synopsis
In an effort to get rid of Godzilla once and for all, Japan develops a device which is supposed to open up a black hole, allowing its people to blast the giant city-stomping lizard creature into another dimension. While the hole is opened, an insect from that other dimension sneaks through and lays an egg, which finds its way into the sewers of Tokyo. Before long, a swarm of alien insects--which feed on Godzilla's energy--are wreaking their own brand of havoc on Japan and its citizens.

Godzilla vs. Megaguirus

This was the first of the 'new' Godzilla movies I saw. I saw it first on the Monster Movie channel and to tell the truth I wasn't all that impressed. However, I had almost all the Godzilla movies to date, so I figured why not get it? On a second watch, it's pretty frickin' awesome. The human part of the story has interesting characters that I found amusing to watch, and the monster fighting was awesome. Megaguirus is a giant dragonfly-like creature from the Carboniferous era that came through a wormhole created during an anti-Godzilla weapon test, although sometimes they just say an insect was mutated by the blast. Either way, it starts out as a swarm of large insects you may recognize from the movie Rodan. These creatures develop wings and fight Godzilla, draining some of his energy and bringing it back to inject into their queen, Megaguirus. Megaguirus isn't the best Godzilla villain, and in some shots you can see the strings they use to make her fly. Even so, some of the effects are pretty cool--there are a couple of parts where she flaps her wings at blinding speed to create a shockwave. Godzilla looks awesome in this one, too. He has that primeval look that I love so much, and they updated the fire breathing effect as well. All in all, I liked this movie. The only complaints I have are about Megaguirus, but they're minor ones.

Not The Best, But As A Fan...I Like

Well this movie features a giant insect from some bizarre dimension. How did it get here? Well the Japanese people's never ending quest to destroy Godzilla takes so many twists and turn that you shouldn't even be surprised. This movie is alright, but for a while it feels like a horror movie when the insects are attacking people on the street. The fight scenes aren't the best, they can be rather bland and the ending isn't much to speak of. On the other hand, it's Godzilla and any fan will like any movie. While there are better, as a long time fan I can easily say that all fans should add this to their collection. While Godzilla's opponent, Megaguirus is really just a scary looking Mothra from another dimension, it's still a new character that fans should look into. If you're someone looking for a great Godzilla movie, it's not in this film. If you're a collector of the movies or a fan looking to see every movie made, then definitely get your hands on this.

Godzilla Vs. Megaguirus

Solid Millennium era G-flick.Plot involves a mutated Dragonfly like monster created by a black hole weapon that was supposed to do away with the big G.(Don't these wacky scientists ever learn)The special effects run the gamut from excellent to laughable.(wait for the moment Megaguiris goes airborne for the 1st time).I kind of expect that in these flicks it's 1/2 the fun.

The plot looks like they recycled a few elements from Gamera 2:Attack of Legion.A movie I highly recommend btw.The acting and the characters are alright there's one annoying little kid but he doesn't get 2 much screen time.Of the Millennium flicks I've seen I'd rank this above Final wars and below Godzilla 2000.A good mix of monster action and cheese.

Title says it all

I have loved Godzilla movies ever since I was a kid. I don't care if they are the corny ones from the 60's and 70's, or what time period. I don't care if they are Japanese with only English subtitles. I am now collecting them, and am replacing my vhs with dvd. I've got a few more to go.
