Movie synopsis
Based on the bestselling novel by Mario Puzo (who co-wrote the screenplay with director Francis Ford Coppola), THE GODFATHER tells an epic tale of Mafia life in America during the 1940s and '50s. Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) is the family patriarch balancing a love of his family with an ambitious criminal instinct. At the wedding of the Don's daughter, Connie (Talia Shire), youngest son Michael (Al Pacino) is reunited with his family. A subsequent assassination attempt leaves the Don too ill to run the family business, forcing Michael and Sonny (James Caan), with the help of consigliere Tom Hagen (Robert Duvall), to lead the Corleones into a vendetta-filled war with other mob families. Violent revenge ensues as the family tries to change from its old criminal ways into legitimacy.Coppola's certified masterpiece, which won three Oscars (including Best Picture) and spawned an Oscar-winning sequel (THE GODFATHER PART II), set a new screen standard for merging blood-soaked violence with intimate family drama. In the process, Coppola single-handedly established the Mafia as an industry in film and television (GOODFELLAS, THE SOPRANOS). Featuring truly unforgettable performances, including the Best Actor-winning Brando, the riveting Pacino, and an unexpectedly dramatic Diane Keaton, THE GODFATHER is the pinnacle of Hollywood cinema in the 1970s.

Just As I Remember It

Review For: The Godfather (DVD, 2004)

The Godfather Films was the first movies I watched as a kid..I loved them then and I still love them now..Marlon Brando plays Godfather Corleone as he grooms his oldest Son Sonny to take over the business he proudly shows off his youngest son Michael played by a very young Al Pacino who chooses to steer clear of the family business however when Sonny is murdered Micheal is called in to save the Family honor..his son being brought into the fold breaks the Godfathers heart..no wonder this great film won so many awards and rave reviews a not to be missed timeless treasure..5 out of 5 bars!

Half of the greatest film in history...

Review For: The Godfather (DVD, 2004)

I consider The Godfather and The Godfather II one film. The first time I saw them, I saw them back-to-back. If this is the case for you, I'm sure you feel the same way.

Together or separate, in my opinion, their either the greatest film, or the greatest two films in the history of motion pictures.

I like this particular version/disk and plan on getting the sequel (the other half...) in the same format.

By this I mean that I like letterboxed versions of films the way they were when originally released. I hate extended versions, director cuts, special edition, blah blah blahs, etc. etc. I especially hate 2-disk sets where the second disk is nothing but a bunch of crap that wouldn't sell on its own, so it's packaged with the film to bring a higher price. This disk may have special features, if so I have ignored them and just watched the film.

One of the greatest movies of all time.

Review For: The Godfather (DVD, 2004)

This is a classic must see movie and the beginning of one of the most brilliantly written and acted pieces of the 20th century. Al Pacino and Marlon Brando give superb performances in their roles as the Corleone mob family.

A must own for any fan of mobster movies or crime drama / action thriller movies in general.

The Godfather

I must have seen this movie at least ten times, and I still marvel at the power it has to truly move me. The Godfather has been in my top 10 favorites ever since it came out. With a fascinating and compelling story and amazing performances by Brando, Pacino, Caan, Keaton, et al, this is a movie that will dazzle, frighten, and mesmerize you.

If you have never met The Don, Micheal, Sonny, and the other members of the family, do yourself a favor and watch it some afternoon. Curl up with your favorite beverage and some popcorn, turn off the phones, and prepare for an epic journey into the lives of the Corleone family. You won't be sorry.
