Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) the most powerful man in New York is head of the most powerful Mafia Family in New York. He eventually passes down the reins of control to his youngest son Michael (Al Pacino). This is the story of a Sicilian family's rise and near fall from power in America. This epic masterpiece directed by Francis Ford Copolla is the "Greatest Fictional Mafia Movie of All Time". Other stars include: James Caan, Richard Castellano, Robert Duvall, and Diane Keaton to name a few. An all star cast for an all star movie. A Must See for any Gangster Movie Fan !! The Godfather Films was the first movies I watched as a kid..I loved them then and I still love them now..Marlon Brando plays Godfather Corleone as he grooms his oldest Son Sonny to take over the business he proudly shows off his youngest son Michael played by a very young Al Pacino who chooses to steer clear of the family business however when Sonny is murdered Micheal is called in to save the Family honor..his son being brought into the fold breaks the Godfathers heart..no wonder this great film won so many awards and rave reviews a not to be missed timeless treasure..5 out of 5 bars!
I consider The Godfather and The Godfather II one film. The first time I saw them, I saw them back-to-back. If this is the case for you, I'm sure you feel the same way.
Together or separate, in my opinion, their either the greatest film, or the greatest two films in the history of motion pictures.
I like this particular version/disk and plan on getting the sequel (the other half...) in the same format.
By this I mean that I like letterboxed versions of films the way they were when originally released. I hate extended versions, director cuts, special edition, blah blah blahs, etc. etc. I especially hate 2-disk sets where the second disk is nothing but a bunch of crap that wouldn't sell on its own, so it's packaged with the film to bring a higher price. This disk may have special features, if so I have ignored them and just watched the film.
This is a classic must see movie and the beginning of one of the most brilliantly written and acted pieces of the 20th century. Al Pacino and Marlon Brando give superb performances in their roles as the Corleone mob family.
A must own for any fan of mobster movies or crime drama / action thriller movies in general.
I must have seen this movie at least ten times, and I still marvel at the power it has to truly move me. The Godfather has been in my top 10 favorites ever since it came out. With a fascinating and compelling story and amazing performances by Brando, Pacino, Caan, Keaton, et al, this is a movie that will dazzle, frighten, and mesmerize you.
If you have never met The Don, Micheal, Sonny, and the other members of the family, do yourself a favor and watch it some afternoon. Curl up with your favorite beverage and some popcorn, turn off the phones, and prepare for an epic journey into the lives of the Corleone family. You won't be sorry.
