Great idea and quirky humor but, it fall short on plot.

Why did I buy this dvd? I fell in love with the idea that the gnomes were so sophisticated, yet stubbornly at war for no particular reason. The classic feuding families and the couple that fall in love is something that can never get old if you have good animation with some quirky humor.



What do I like best about the dvd? I love the overall humor of the director and writers. Of course it's a classic "Romeo and Juliet" romance film, however, this one doesn't end in tragedy. I enjoyed it because of the subtle references to other material and the original, as well. My younger cousins thought it was hilarious and I can't say that about most animations. They have a dry sense of humor and this dvd is packed with it. I'm a bit goofy myself and simple things make me giggle. This dvd hit the spot.



What did I dislike about the product? I felt that it was short compared to other films. At times, it seems that there was reaching for more material and the plot was rushed on. I didn't like the lawn mow beast part, especially. I get that they were competing with the mows but when the gnome purchased the souped up mow, I felt it was a little distasteful. To me (this is just my opinion), I feel that the writers were giving the impression that if you buy bigger and more expensive then you will always come out on top. I thought that was a little much for the children, when we try to teach them about quality not quantity.



Overall, Gnomeo and Juliet stands in with a great deal of animated cartoons. It could have been longer with a better plot of how things played out, but I still enjoy it.




If you like quirky humor and gnomes, this is the movie for you.

Great animated musical

music animated movie, which if you ever told me I'd be listening to lady Gaga, I would have fainted. Her voice with Elton John makes a haunting song that won't leave you soon. Great classic story line enjoiyed be children and adults

Great story! Even greater music!!

We rented this movie from the Redbox and my son cried when I had to take it back so I knew we had to buy it for our own collection. It is a cute story and the Elton John music makes it all the more fun. My 3 year old son loves this movie as does my 38 year old husband so this is definitely well watched at our house.
