Synopsis
All Lisbeth Salander wants is to pursue her revenge--against the individuals and the institutions--that did their best to destroy her life. Unfortunately, as Steig Larsson opens his third and final chapter in his wildly popular Millennium series, Salander is laid up with critical injuries in the Sahlgrensa hospital and will need the help of newspaper man Mikael Blomkvist in order to put to rest her troubled past--and to prove her still doubted innocence in a slate of Stockholm murders. First on Blomkvist's list of shady characters is Salander's father, a Soviet double-agent who has long worked for Sweden's secret police. Investigating an individual with such a storied past inevitably ticks off some powerful and dangerous individuals, as the journalist slowly begins to unravel a long-buried conspiracy. While Blomkvist doggedly searches for proof of Salander's innocence--and his lady friend Erica struggles with sexism at her new job--Larsson's obsession-worthy heroine is stuck in a hospital bed--but worry not, devoted fans, she can do quite a lot of good damage with a few simple movements of her fingers upon her PDA. Readers of the trilogy will certainly be sad to experience the final chapter in Lisbeth Salander's story as written by Larsson before his death in 2004, but this is a stirring and satisfying conclusion to a fabulous trilogy. Selected by the New York Times Book Review as a Notable Book of 2010.

Publisher's Note
Lisbeth Salander—the heart of Larsson’s two previous novels—is under close supervision in the intensive care unit of a Swedish city hospital. She’s fighting for her life in more ways than one: when she’s well enough, she’ll stand trial for three murders. With the help of her friend, journalist Mikael Blomkvist, she will have to prove her innocence, and to identify the corrupt politicians who have allowed the vulnerable, like herself, to suffer abuse. And, on her own, she will plot her revenge—against the man who tried to kill her and the government institutions that very nearly destroyed her life.

Once upon a time, she was a victim. Now Lisbeth Salander is ready to fight back.

From the Hardcover edition.

While recovering in the hospital, Lisbeth Salander enlists the aid of journalist Mikael Blomkvist to prove her innocent of three murders and identify the corrupt politicians who have allowed her to suffer, and, on her own, Lisbeth plots revenge against the man who tried to kill her. Simultaneous.

Industry Reviews
"The final verdict is in: Steig Larsson has posthumously proven himself to be one of the Greats of Mystery Fiction, taking his place in the pantheon along with other demi-Gods like Christie, Sayers, Hammett, Chandler, Robert Parker and his (still-breathing) fellow Swede, Henning Mankell."
(05/24/2010)

"Patented Larsson, meaning fast-paced enough to make those Jason Bourne films seem like Regency dramas." (starred review)
(04/01/2010)

"Salander is such a bravura heroine--steel will and piercing intelligence veiling a heartbreaking vulnerability--that we'd willingly follow her through any bramble bush of a plot....There are few characters as formidable as Lisbeth Salander in contemporary fiction of any kind. She will be sorely missed." (starred review)
(03/15/2010)

"[F]or fans of the first two books, there are plenty of the Larssonian hallmarks they have come to love: the rough justice meted out by Salander to her enemies; the strong, successful female characters...and the characters' acutely Swedish, acutely relaxed attitude toward sex and sexuality."

I loved the first two books, and I've only just begun this one and so far, I really like it. I love the characters and the story lines. Sometimes, it's a little too detailed, but all in all, it is important to the story. Just wish I could hurry and finish. I wanna know how this thing ends!

I have been mesmerized by the first 2 books in the series & I loved "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" movie. So excited to hear they are making a movie out of book 2, "The Girl Who Played With Fire." Too bad the author is deceased, as it would be great to follow him next books.
