Excellent,, very cool sounding and looking guitar
Created: 04/14/11
I just got this guitar from a seller here on ebay, and it's the best guitar I ever had. It's very comfortable to play, both standing up or sitting down, and it has a look you can't mistake for anything else. No wonder so many other guitar companies tried to imitate that special look, but there's only one Gibson Explorer and you can tell the difference.
the moment you hold it, you feel like you're holding something massive and well built, like it's not gonna break even in a thousand years.
It has a very warm sound to it, coming from a mahogany body, and great sounding pickups. some people like swapping those for EMG 81's or 89's, but I think it makes the guitar lose a lot of its distinctive sound, since Active PU's are very sterilizing and don't let the sound of the wood come through as much. If you want more output, I personally suggest getting some quality higher output passives, like Seymour Duncan, Suhr or . but playing this guitar and comparing it to my other one which has high output passives, I noticed little to no difference.
I guess a large portion of people interested in this guitar are metalheads, punks and the like, people who are looking for a guitar that sounds good while "dirty". well, this guitar chugs like a metalhead's dream. it really makes you wanna pick it up and play it, do some powerchords and shred on that incredibly fast rosewood neck.
As a metal machine, it has an advantage a lot of the guitars aimed at the genre don't have, a hard tail bridge. Having played mostly Floyd Rose guitars over the years, I really appreciate the transition to a simple, reliable bridge that stays in tune and doesn't make you tune the entire guitar every time a string pops. It's a priceless advantage during live shows and when you just want a guitar that works, without having to deal with anything but playing it.
Overall I would recommend this guitar to anyone with the right budget, who's looking for the real thing without the frills. It's special in a very elegant way, and the combination of that black body color with the white pickguard is a real thing of beauty, and most importantly, it has that thick, fat sound you only get from a made in USA Gibson.

I'm happy that I have one gibson explorer

The gibson explorer sounds great but the only problem is that it's heavy and it's not comfortable when you wanna sit down and play and it's hard to play a solo on 22nd fret ,but everything else is good and I have to say it's the best.

2006 Gibson Explorer '76 Reissue
Created: 12/13/10
This '76 reissue Gibson Explorer is in fantastic condition and almost appears to never have been played. It was taken care of superbly for being 4 years old. It's classic white which appears somewhat cream-colored with a white pick guard. The bridge and tuners are chrome which looks very nice with the color of the body. I have a 1999 Gibson SG Standard Limited Edition that has a very dark tone and sounds super chunky which is great for heavy stoner and doom. Adding the Explorer to the collection is great from the aspect that the humbuckers are much different and feels more congruent with playing rock and metal. The body design is wild and although it may appear difficult to play because of its shape; it is very light and easy to position on your lap when sitting down. The speed of the neck is very nice. It's not super slim but is thin enough to blast out quick riffs for a less technical guitar player like myself. I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone looking to have fun playing rock, thrash, metal, or whatever you're into. For me, the only sticking point I have is that this could not be my only guitar. Its playability, look, and craftsmanship are awesome; but I prefer a bit of a heavier tone mainly that I get in my SG. Check out some of the vintage auctions for Explorers. Many are reasonably priced for a very fun and solid quality guitar.
