The GE X5 offers a lot for its low price, including a 15x wide-angle zoom lens and semimanual and manual controls.
The X5's shooting performance is really slow, and it's not good indoors without a flash and in low-light conditions.
The GE X5 megazoom is a very good value, as long as you understand its photo and performance limitations.

I did some research before making this purchase. It's a nice camera with features like a point-and-shoot.If you just look closely at the physical framework of the shell, then compare the menu system to Fuji's of this price, you won't doubt my claim; when you take some pics, you'll know. 'Rebadging', or remarking, is not a new selling strategy. It has been used by the auto industry, electronics industry, and computer software industry, to name a few.
Just check out my pics above, the macros of the Lily and cone flower and the lamp post shots (3, normal, 15x and full zoom). I could get so close with macro that I could practically touch the lens to the objects (with good light), and using full zoom you can see the screw threads of the bolts of the lamp post. The color is incredible.
The battery life is good also. I use cheap rechargeables. The image stabilization was demonstrated by the company at a recent electronics show where they mounted it on a heavily vibrating platform yet it still took a clean, focused shot. It works great.
While looking to buy a cheap camera for myself, I came across the GE X5 and the GE X500. I was not very familiar with it because I never knew GE made any cameras.
I did buy the GE X5 after reading a lot of positive reviews online and soon after taking it out from the box I tested it. I am happy with the quality of day time images and the zoom is one of the best features on this camera. The camera however, as described in most of the reviews is not the best for night photography and for sport or fast motion photography. The shutter speed is slow but since my main focus is not in these areas I am very satisfied with the quality thus far.
I have been using it for the past one month and have to admit that the results do vary from time to time. It gave me very good pictures at twilight one day but the next time I tried to take some sunrise pictures, I was not very satisfied with the image and these were both taken in AUTO mode.
One of the reasons why this camera is very good for the price is the all MANUAL feature. Very helpful for those who are looking to pick up a cheap camera before they invest on a costlier DSLR.
The video quality is good but can be grainy at times. I did record a lot of home videos and they are pretty good for web but not for professional style video.
The PANORAMA setting is good if you have a tripod else all you get is blurred out images.
Over all, this camera is a very good buy and not so hard on the pocket. If you have a passion for simple photography, you can go for it but don't expect high quality images. You will just get web quality images and not anything close to HD.
I have had my new camera now for over a year and decided to write a review. I needed a new camera and found this GE Power Pro series to be perfect for my needs.
Before I ordered it there were only two aspects that had me wondering if I should order it at all. First the GE brand. Now I knew GE to be a great brand for some things but I never knew they made cameras. Second this camera did not have a super macro lens like my Olympus did. However given my financial state at the time and the fact that I had researched literally dozens and dozens of cameras, I always found myself coming back to this GE.
Initially, the look is what drew me to this camera. It's stylish, not too heavy for an SLR camera and fits perfectly in your hands. You can order the camera in white, red or black. I love the white. One main thing I love about this camera is that it does not eat batteries at an alarming rate. The camera came with four double AA batteries of which were still on full power after one month. It's really amazing. Of course you can use rechargeable as well.
Another great feature is the viewfinder. My other two previous cameras did not have this feature which is really important in certain settings. If it weren't for the viewfinder on this camera, I never would have been able to capture The Blue Angels during their air show here in San Francisco.
As I mentioned, this camera has macro but not super macro settings. However, I have noticed that in the regular macro setting on this camera I can still achieve that super macro shot which is much more crisp and clear than what I had with the Olympus. So, it worked out well.
Another great thing about this camera is the auto mode which I normally use for your average, everyday scenery and landscape shots. I am thrilled at the outcome of these shots. They are beautiful in color and very detailed. They are much better than the auto shots I took with the Olympus. I was never completely satisfied with those.
This GE has a multitude of settings and modes of which I am still learning. The zoom lens is just amazing!!! There are shots that I have taken miles away from a subject that came out so detailed it is unbelievable. I can even take a macro with the zoom. There was a shot of a flower I took recently that I could not get close to while in the gardens. I set the camera to a manual mode, using macro and zoomed in. The flower shot looks like I had been inches away.
This camera also has blink detection and smile detection etc... In fact when you are taking a portrait shot or a shot of a group of people, the camera will automatically detect the smiles and take the shot. It also has a panoramic mode that is supposed to be fantastic. I haven't yet, however, tried that setting.
I have also used this camera in very low light conditions. I've used it in nightclubs where I was away from the stage and the photos of the performers came out perfect.
The manuals and websites I had read about this camera prior to buying it stated that the video mode was not in HD. NOT TRUE! I've taken several videos with this camera and the quality is HD. Plus, you can also zoom in and out while shooting a video with this camera.
All in all, so far this camera is doing a fantastic job for me and I am becoming more and more familiar with it's settings each day. It's easy to handle, lightweight enough to fit into a purse and very stylish. I hope it keeps working this great for years to come.
I was very hesitant to buy this camera, especially because GE isn't really a big name in the camera department. However, after reading a copious amount of excellent reviews, I decided to give it a try. I purchased it refurbished but it might as well be brand new.
The quality of the pictures is noticeable better than the regular point and shoot cameras (at least a LOT better than my previous Canon Powershot). I love the panoramic view which is extremely easy to use.
I still have a lot to learn about this camera, but I'm VERY happy with my purchase.
It was time for a new camera, I liked Digital but have not used it other then tryout shots,I like what i see, weight is good, size is OK, would recommend to everyone!!
