Gene Kelly was THE master of the dance. This movie outlines his life and accomplishments in a way that shows what a great dancer AND a fine person he was. Interviews and film clips of his personal and professional life from those who knew him.
Every fan of Gene Kelly's dancing has seen again and again the standards of his work: the famous "Singin' in the Rain" dance, the ballet from "An American in Paris" and the dance with Jerry the Mouse from "Anchors Aweigh." What this documentary provides is a fresh look at Kelly's talent, with never-before seen clips from Kelly's first broadway show, "Pal Joey" to his behind-the-scenes work as director of "Hello Dolly". What we get is a true look at the man behind the myth, warts and all. Interviews with his family and former coworkers show a man who oftentimes was more a perfectionist than a dancer. It is a rich, compelling, and intriguing look at Fred Astaire's only competition in the realm of movie musicals. Watch it and get to know the real Gene Kelly.
I've enjoyed and followed Gene Kelly movies. He's been my favorite dancer for about 5 decades. The movie presented a fairly good picture of Mr. Kelly and the different movies and partners he's danced with. I wish there was more of his biography and family life. The selections of his most popular dance scenes were presented, especially him dancing with the animated cartoon characters...good job in synchronizing his movements with the animated characters.
I really enjoyed this video because it had Gene Kelly's life story included with his dancing scenes. I purchased it as a gift for a young dancer. I wanted to share the charisma and style of the one of my favorites. I loved the scenes from Gene Kelly's TV show. There was Mickey Mantle in his prime! This dvd is a great biography andbrings back wonderful memories!
Bought for my daughter, who is a dancer. Great way for her to see one of the best dancers hollywood ever had. Very enjoyable.
