"The Garmin Nuvi 760 portable navigation system features text-to-speech functionality and useful location features that help you find nearby services. The system also has a wide screen, a built-in transmitter, and other travel tools. Bluetooth hands-free calling and FM traffic reception increase the usefulness of the device."
The Nuvi 760 was occasionally sluggish to alert us to turns and to calculate routes. It's also a bit pricey.
"The Garmin Nuvi 760 delivers beautifully on almost every front, but the portable navigation system hits a speed bump with its sluggish performance."

I decided to buy this Garmin GPS first of all because Garmin's satellite set-up is superior to the others. Do your research and you will see that it is the most accurate and reliable. This was important to me. I wanted this particular model because it includes ALL the features on the comparison chart except the European maps, and I'm not planning to go to Europe. Some of the features I don't currently use, but I figured I might as well have them to possibly use in the future. I thought I could get by on the GPS on my Iphone, which is great, but so limited in comparison. My sons play high school football in this area where we moved. Most of the "away" games are way out somewhere an hours drive away or more in places I have never been to. I am traveling these farm roads at night on the way back. The traffic on the way over is rush hour, fast and hectic. Last year each trip was stressed out, cursing, lost, exhausting. This year with this GPS THE TRIPS ARE ENJOYABLE!!! I think I've fallen in love with that woman on the GPS who navigates so well for me and guides me along. I'm sure it's also very much safer, because I can focus on the driving rather than searching for road signs, while looking at the map, wondering if I'm in the right lane when the highway splits. And, when I realize I've gone the wrong way somehow, then how to get back. This nuvi 760 eliminates all of that. It always knows where you are, and is engineered so well in keeping you up to date on what is coming up, where you are supposed to be and what you need to do next. If you can't get over, because of traffic, no worries. It immediately reports, "recalculating" and takes you the shortest way back to continue your journey. Also, with the bluetooth, if you get a call while driving, you don't have to reach, fumbling for your phone, just push a button on the screen and you're on. What I do is tell the person I will call them back, then find a place to pull over and use the phone. Some things in life are worth the money, and to me this GPS is worth it's weight in gold. I can't imagine wanting or needing anything more than this nuvi for at least the next 5 years. It's sturdily built, the windshield base works good, the screen is bright, day and night. A friend of mine got one that doesn't announce the street names and he is disappointed with his. I recommend spending the little bit extra to get the one that says the names. I got mine on ebay, refurbished, with a years warranty. The only bad thing about it is that it is addicting. I would already be hard pressed to make any kind of trip without it. My advise is that if you are in any way "directionally challenged" like me, get a GPS. Life is too short to be lost and irritated. Take advantage of the modern technology. I printed up the manual that I downloaded online at the Garmin site. I put it in a binder that I can refer to if I need to. You should read through this manual at least once to understand all the features and see all of the things this device can do for you. The nuvi's operation is very intuitive. If you can navigate around on your cell phone, it's a lot like that. I just read over my review here and it sounds like I'm a Garmin salesman, which I'm not. I work in the human services field. Good luck, and have a good time with your nuvi if you decide to buy one. I'm delighted with mine.
Garmin nuvi 760 is a wonderful product from garmin. The reason I liked this unit was since it has almost all essential features like bluetooth, FM transmitter, where you are, touch screen, and telling street name and very cost effective etc. Already I have Garmin Ique 3600 PDA type GPS. That too was good & still working good. I like the Size, shape and the features. I really enjoy using it. Thanks Garmin & ebay.
This thing even says the NAMES of people you know, it has bluetooth so i can talk to callers HANDSFREE, The Directionals are on POINT and will not get you lost or tell you of and take you to the bridge to nowhere, AND ITS USER FRIENDLY..with a few minors . what i dont like is the OS, the letter keys arent built like a keyboard...so your left searching for letters. when using blutooth it may not pick your phonebook...leaving u to put in all your number manually. I live in texas now...and its not as huddled as my old home VEGAS...getting lost here is easier...i got this simbly because it has bluetooth+, and good reviews
The Nuvi 760 is great and extremely reliable Garmin GPS unit. From opening the box to setting it up and ease of use, the 760 is a pleasure to use. I have been using the older Nuvi 350 unit for te past 3 yers and expected, at least, the same peformance. I was not dissappointed. Along with a very reasonabe price, I recommend this purchase to anyone looking for a high quality GPS unit.
The Nuvi 760 offers a wide screen format and extra features such as bluetooth connectivity and 'find me' option. Welcome features that I expect to use frequently.
In summary, the Garmin Nuvi 760 is a great GPS device that is packed with features and functionality that meet and/or exceed its competitors in the GPS marketplace.
I purchased this new back in 2009 to install in my 2008 Nissan 350Z. It was the perfect size for the little cubby in the center of the dash. Whenever I want to update it or use it on another vehicle, I just push down on the button and it pops out, no problem. For mounting reasons alone, the 760 is better than the newer Garmin GPS units that mount using a clip on the top and bottom of the screen. If you're going to permanently or semi-permanently mount this to your dash, it's a better-looking solution and takes care of any wires that would otherwise stick out from the back (like my wife's newer Garmin does).
In terms of functions, the 760 is one of the best GPSs that Garmin havs ever made. The music player, the FM broadcaster, Bluetooth, plus all the little goodies like currency calculators, optional Fodor's Travel Guide, etc. make this one very loaded little GPS. The screen is bright and has a matte finish that doesn't reflect light or attract fingerprints like some of the newer units. Although it sometimes takes a while for it to find a satellite signal, it has RARELY been unable to find one. Even inside my house, it usually manages to get 3-4 bars.
One of the best features of this unit is the MP3 player and the FM transmitter. I recently went on a trip to Maui and drove a rental car down the Hana Highway. Shortly after leaving Kahului, we lost all radio. The rental, being a piece of junk, well... rental... now had no tunes. It's a long drive and there's a lot of crazy traffic and you know what Buggs Bunny said about music calming the savage beast and all. I remembered that a long time ago I had loaded about 100 albums on my 8 GB SD card. I turned on the FM transmitter, selected Weezer, and VOILA! We had tunes. Lots and lots of tunes. And all the while, the Garmin guided us down the twisty Hana Highway and told us where all the good points of interest were. I paid a lot for this GPS since I bought it new and to be honest, this one experience made me realize that it was worth its weight in gold.
Bottom line: this is probably the best GPS Garmin has ever made. It came as a factory GPS on the Nissan Rogue and some BMWs and Range Rovers when it was first introduced as a $700 option. These can be had for a song now on the used market, so if you're looking for a FULL-FEATURED, GPS, go with this one. Oh, it's easy to replace the battery. Go aftermarket with something that has a few extra milliamps and you'll get well over 5 hours of battery time on it. My record is 6 hours and 33 minutes on a trip across the State of Washington. Not bad considering the competition.
One last thing: a lot of the older reviews mention that there isn't enough memory to update the unit to Garmin's newest maps. Garmin has fixed this glitch and now uploads the maps to your SD card. I'm using a 8 GB SD card on my 760 and it has all North America maps, 100 MP3 albums, a photo gallery and a bunch of other stuff with a LOT of room to spare. By moving the maps to the SD card, it frees up the on-board memory and the operating system seems to run faster.
