Garmin Trucker's model

Purchased this for my truck driver husband and he loves it. He says it tells him so much more about truck routes, weight of load, axle weight, where all the weigh stations are located, along with a plethera of other info. The price was about $200 less than our local electronics store so it was a good deal, too. He previously had a Garmin Nuvi, so this was an easy transition. One thing about Garmin's - they are very user friendly! It takes about 5 minutes to go through all the features and start using it. When buying a GPS you need to check how many millions of points of interest a unit has. Cheaper isn't always the best. Garmins have many millions of points of interest which allows you to search an area for whatever your interest is. I haven't used any other brand, but Garmins are easy.

Garmin Nuvi 465T

I'm very impressed with Garmin's Truck GPS. The traffic feature and the bluetooth compatibility as well as the very fast recalculation are great. As with all GPS units they are inherently flawed by no fault of the manufacturer. It's the map data that still has inaccuracies in it that are attributable to the agencies responsible for gathering such data. For example New York City/NY state mark many low bridges at false heights. On the BQE and the LIE I take my 13'6" trailer all the time, but some of the bridges in those areas are marked as low as 12'2". My truck will go under them fine, but the GPS routes me around them. I swear if I ever win the lottery I'll be suing NY state and NYC for the unnecessary confusion they're causing in the trucking industry on not only low bridges but also parkways. Many NYC streets are named "_____ parkway" (ie Utopia Parkway) it's a street not a parkway that trucks can drive on. Then they wonder why commercial drivers get on parkways!?!? Duh, these practices need to be corrected at the State and City level. Quit blaming the individual truck drivers for what NYC and NY state have created. Massive confusion!!!

Love my Garmin 465T but, want to sue NY State and NY City!!!!

I'm a 22 year CDL A driver for a Brattleboro, VT trucking company. I deliver in the six New England states and NJ, NY and PA to military bases and grocery stores. GPS units are the way of the future for finding your way around and they are awesome as long as you keep in mind they are not and perhaps never will be perfect! They really shine when you learn how to create and load your own Custom POI's!!!!

My previous GPS unit was the Garmin Rino 530HCx handheld hiking GPS unit. I liked it as well, but felt it was time to upgrade to a real truck GPS unit. The differences between the two are like night and day as to how they work in my tractor trailer. The 465T is much faster on recalculation, the Rino wasn't prone to falsely marked low bridges. Both are excellent products and Garmin is the best of the best in the GPS business! I recommend the 465T with the caveat that you keep in mind who's truly at fault when your GPS doesn't do what it should...

Garmin nuvi 465T Truck GPS

After having used Google and Mapquest for years to get directions for my drivers, I started buying this model because unlike other GPS units this one allows you to input multiple truck profiles into the memory for recall later. This allows me to move my units into different size, height, and weight trucks without reprogramming the unit. The speed limit display, and real time traffic updates along with fast recalculating around traffic problems makes it ideal for trucks. Speaker inside the unit is too small and distorts too easily for regular use but other than that it is a worthy unit to purchase.

Garnin nuvi 465T & nuvi 5000

I use nuvi 5000 for about 4 years now - LOVE IT... I'm starving to get something like 465 T but it is to small. If 465 T software was in nuvi 5000 I would buy it today with no hesitation. Although , there is few things where Garmin makes huge mistake... The amount of Favorites in nuvi 5000 is 3000. That's not enough. 465 has only 1000 - and that is RIDICULOUS. I could use the Custom POI option where you can store 100000 POI's but then in a driving mode they are not displayed... So,.. There is always SOMETHING MISSING - WHY ??? Why Garmin doesn't allow users to customize certain things. Why do they need to control everything to their limited perspective and short imagination ? Garmin - if you want to develop good trucking GPS you need to talk to very experienced Garmin users not new ones. I don't think you're gonna contact me but you should. I am a truck driver and I know everything possible about nuvi 5000 and this is the one that should be for the truckers. It has THE PERFECT SIZE - that's one of the issues and important one. All other stuff can be reworked in the software. Graphics are perfect as well... Talk to me !!!

For the price you just can't beat it. Garmin did a good job on this one.

The Garmin 465 is great for use in a Big rig or a motorhome. You can input the O.A.L. of the truck and trailer, the O.A.H. of the tallest point and the weight. The 465 will then tell you were the low spots, and tight turns are in the road ahead.

It uses a stanard Mini Usb charger port and that is the same port that is used to upload data and up grade the unit.

The 465 has a car and truck mode so you can also us it in the car. When in car mode it look just like a Garmin 255w, infact the mount, car charger are the same as the 255w.

This unit has the speedlimit indicator, and lane assist in it.
Lane assist telles you what lanes you need to be in to stay on your route.
