There is a true need and market for a truck friendly GPS. This GPS should be marketed to RV owners and toy hauler owners alike. With the tecnology available today there should be no limit to the detail that a quality GPS could afford. Why are there so many limitations to these tools??? The Garmin 465T is by far the overall best that I have seen of the five or 6 available. The trouble with all GPS manufactures is the inability to adjust for the needs of the driver. Driving too slow or fast the directions need to be given in time and more percise to avoid quick lane changes or missing an exit. it is easy to over drive the map and be past an exit or be right on an exit making it unsafe to make the change in direction in time. Features that are a must would be a vehicle spicific checklist like the 465T but expand it to feture options for driving habits (fast driver, slow driver, moderate driver, etc) and EZpass equiped vehicle to designate the correct lane for EZ pass vehicles. Handycaped driver, etc One problem I encounter in traffic when mooving very slow is the GPS does not signal or spell out the next turn far enough in advance to get to the correct lane. if I am in a tractor trailer and need to manuever accross 4 lanes of trafic to exit in trafic I at tiems only get a quarter mile to do so. not enought time to do it safely. Also if after entering a large underpass like in New York after the George washington bridge you lose satalite reception and if you stop for a length the screen goes blank. there is no refference as to where the GPS was sending you to so you become blind when you finaly get reception where the GPS recaculates and sends you on a deferent path.. The biggest problem with a gps though a great tool it only gives you a window to look through through your journy. There is no way to look at the big picture and see where you are going or if you are getting close by looking at a wider view. A GPS is like playing simon says....
Perfect for truckers. While my coworkers all use a standard GPS unit that directs them on routes that are inappropriate and sometimes tough to navigate for large trucks, this unit keeps me on fast and appropriate truck routes. I have had this unit for 2 months, and it has so far proved to be reliable and accurate. If you are a tractor trailer driver and looking for a suitable GPS unit to keep your rig on track, this is the one. It provides warnings for traffic congestion, sharp curves, low bridges, high railroad crossing grades, no u-turns, etc. It also warns when you are on a road that is unapproved for truck traffic, so you know to pay closer attention to possible weight restrictions, low clearances, etc. The unit can be toggled between truck and car modes so you can use it in your car or truck. And the large screen shows more map for earlier decision making. I would rate this unit A+++.
I help co-drive a big rig and this GPS was a God send for navigating through Chicago. I have read other reviews of this unit and some truckers will say, "It routed me down a restricted street". No GPS is 100% accurate and cities can put up a no trucks sign anytime they want. As with any tool, use it with a bit of common sense. Speed of operation is fantastic. Sensitivity is high, even on the Dan Ryan in Chicago. Only annoyance is that the traffic service comes with commercials. Wish there was a way to get rid of that feature. I really don't want to stay in a Best Western every town i go through. Over all, the 465T is everything I have come to expect from Garmin. It is that reason that I have been a loyal Garmin user since day 1 when Gps units didn't even have a map.
I was very excited to receive my GPS. It seemed to work fine for the first part of my trip. Then it started to flash and fade. It finally went out. Since I am a truck driver, I depend on the GPS to help me find pick ups and deliveries. I get home every 5-6 weeks and it is taking me a long time to go through the exchange process with Garmin. I will not buy another product from this person.
Great for someone who has used garmins before very easy to use. However for those who have'nt been using a GPS or driving Commercial trucks that long (Or who havent any Idea of the area they are going to they will downgrade any GPS, DO NOT LIKE WHINING REVIEWS!!!!). It works great!!! (Even lets you know where weigh stations are and slow traffic.
